Why are Hermes so crap?

Every time, delayed, discarded, fake attempt at delivery etc etc

This year - saw it parked outside my house, ran down, van drives off and I eventually get a text to say it's been delivered - package dumped in a bin. No attempt at knocking.

Text to say sorry we missed you. You didn't. You just didn't knock.

Delivery delayed, was for Monday, messaged it was held up but would be one the move' within 24 hours - that was 7.30am Tuesday and no change

Never have such continual uselessness with others.

I'm another than won't use Hermes (how is it pronounced, was he the Greek God of messengers?)
I will pay extra to have DPD deliver it and if it doesn't say I have started contacting them before I purchase it. Tbf it's not our local delivery guy I have a problem with its their dispatch warehouse where everything seems to go wrong.

Newmetoday · 09/01/2020 07:57

My Hermes delivery guy is brilliant. He comes at the same time every time I’m expecting a delivery. It’s great

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 09/01/2020 08:32

We have 2 round here - one is a middle aged woman, competent and generally knocks. Have seen her sometimes not bothering and just chucking them in the recycling bin.
The new one is an old bloke in his 70s I'd guess. He can't use the machine thingy so I'm stood at the door waiting for up to 10 mins for each delivery while he struggles to get it to scan and accept a signature. This week he brought me a blind which was bent in two!! Reckons it was like that when he picked it up Hmm. I'm really pissed off as it's totally out of stock and is needed for my nursery to match the new curtains Angry

Elouera · 09/01/2020 08:40

We call them Herpes!!!
Utterly useless where we live. Multiple times they claim they tried to deliver but we weren't in and their website says they left a calling card which is utter rubbish! We work from home & have a camera at the front door, so can easily see that they never attempted delivery nor even left a calling card!

Ariela · 09/01/2020 08:41

They are cheap, that is why. My best friend always grumbles about Hermes because they only get paid for deliveries that are made on the right day or something, so they always say it's delivered when it's not. And then bring it round a week later. She used to work for TNT just after they bought Intercounties Express (known for their nipple pink lorries) and set up their next day delivery service covering the whole of the UK. Given fuel at the time (early 80s) was probably about 1/3 of the cost now, she finds it staggering they were not allowed to sell ANY delivery at less than £10-12 and even then they had to send hundreds of parcels - yet you can get next day delivery with some carriers for less than half that now!

No wonder you don't get the service!

SouthWestmom · 09/01/2020 10:33

I might like a pp check now who is used or look more closely at the options. No idea where the parcel is - I was looking forward to trying out some new make up bits, will have to wait (im)patiently

We've had a succession of brilliant Hermes drivers (and the one before our current one was blooming gorgeous to boot!). They always come at the same sort of time, knock, wait, try neighbours if we're not in or hide parcels sensibly in our porch and put a note through to say where they are. It really does vary by area though.

WildRosie · 09/01/2020 11:25

Hermes have been reasonably ok for me in recent years but I get that they have the potential to be rather hit and miss. If I'm buying something online, I try to specify Royal Mail if possible as I'll often be home in the morning when they deliver. If not, the local sorting office is less than five minutes walk from home which is a huge plus. I find the eBay click and collect facility very useful too as my local Argos is in one of my usual shopping towns just down the road.

happinessischocolate · 09/01/2020 11:34

Yodel are hilarious

When I was expecting a delivery they were unable to say when during the day it was likely to arrive, but when I missed the delivery and had to go pick it up from their depot 14 miles away, I had to book a time slot to pick it up 😂

SouthWestmom · 09/01/2020 12:17

ShockShock

Madness.

Well I've just ordered some amazing earrings from John Lewis sale and no idea who they use. Paid £4 for standard delivery

Noeuf you mentioned cat treats - is there any chance you can ask your cat to sign for parcels? I only ask because my last Hermes delivery had an unrecognisable signature, and as it was posted through the cat flap that can only be opened by the cat herself, I presume it must have been her that signed for it...

SouthWestmom · 09/01/2020 16:33

That is a brilliant idea. Cat is very clever (natch) so can certainly give it a go. Whether she will shred the band posting it is another matter...

Oh ffs John Lewis use Hermes too. Just had an email - the carrier had collected your parcel. Hermes ? We are waiting to receive your parcel from the sender.

Bloody brilliant.

The GLS dude in my area fits all the evil stereotypes of men. He is verbally abusive if you don't get to the door quick enough ( I work from home and often have calls / clients), he is leery, disrespectful and as the cherry on top he is aggressive. He has kicked my door open and stuck his foot in the door !!

Hate the dude so much that I am praying for him.... and have resolved not to answer to any delivery people now.

SouthWestmom · 10/01/2020 18:11

I don't know gls.
I like all the amazon people

I miss my Hermes man. I used to see him every day when I was maternity leave 😳

RIBlue · 10/01/2020 19:04

Mine’s a sweetheart, always happy as larry and with a treat for the dog. He works so hard too, I saw him before Christmas deliver a parcel to the local pub that I was frequenting at 10pm!

Yodel delivered today to my specified ‘safe place’ which is the shed in the back garden. They emailed me to say it was delivered to said place. It was actually on the front doormat...

SouthWestmom · 10/01/2020 20:13

Oh that's annoying. What is it with dog treats? Are they terrified of being eaten?

No bloody make up

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/01/2020 20:22

Ours (Chris) is great.

SouthWestmom · 14/01/2020 09:37

That is shocking.
My app still shows delivery last Tuesday. Over a week late and no sign.

Notthebloodygym · 14/01/2020 09:42

Ours is great too.
