If WW3 kicked off, and you were forced to enlist, do you think you'd cope?

I 100% wouldn't.

I've looked at the army website and the fitness levels they require alone are way above my baseline level (out of breath when running up stairs Grin)

I'm very small and weigh 6 and a half stone, so would probably be a liability to my fellow troops.

How do you think you'd fare?

I'm far too old/unfit for action but would hope to be useful on the technology side of things.

redastherose · 05/01/2020 21:37

I'm too old but with training I could probably make the fitness (have always been fairly fit) never really ill and I think I would be fairly good as a soldier as I'm practical sensible calm in a crisis. I did seriously think about joining many years ago, partly because I came from a deprived northern town with few prospects.

Dowser · 05/01/2020 21:38

I think it’s not a good idea to let fear dominate our thoughts.

BecauseReasons · 05/01/2020 21:39

Surely WW3 will involve nuclear warfare and footsoldiers will be of neither use nor ornament?

BoffinMum · 05/01/2020 21:42

They would probably have me training the drone people in how to boot up their systems, or processing boring paperwork, so my mediocre 50-something fitness wouldn't be a handicap.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 05/01/2020 21:43

I use a wheelchair.

I'm a pretty good shot though 🤷‍♀️

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 05/01/2020 21:44

Fist bump for viva though - we can maybe create some sort of unit of our own?

BoffinMum · 05/01/2020 21:46

I think we could strap a light sabre to each side of the wheelchair and deploy you as a form of tactical cavalry. Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2020 21:47

@Beyondflubeinclusionaryrf hell yes. Invalid Sharp Shooting Team. 🤛🏻👍

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 05/01/2020 21:49

Yes because I used to be in the army so I know what's expected.

chocolate26 · 05/01/2020 21:51

I'm currently pregnant so hopefully they wouldn't want me 😂 I thought it was just men who got forced to go?!

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2020 21:51

Dd is good at gaming so she’d be good at drone flying.

fantasmasgoria1 · 05/01/2020 21:56

I have a serious mental illness - strike one, i have a back problem, awful sciatica and I walk with a stick - strike two! If I could help in another way such as admin etc I would but I could not stand for long periods or walk long distances right now. Who knows in a few months once I have seen the consultant again!

fastliving · 05/01/2020 22:00

I think I'd have to make the tea, I'm not good with authority.
I could probably pass the fitness test - but with my ethnic background I doubt I'd be allowed a gun (although ironically I am a good shot)

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 05/01/2020 22:09

I'm a smiley, unintimidating middle-aged woman whom people ask for directions and chat to in shops, so I think I'd make an excellent spy.

Of course, I can't speak the right languages and would have no reason to be in Iran so that might not work...I'd probably be relegated to something in admin. or long-distance driving. Wouldn't mind flying either, but need my pilot's license first.

Cohle · 05/01/2020 22:18

Well I'm quite unfit but presumably if things were bad enough that they'd brought back conscription they set up fitness boot camps.

Like the one in the park near me ... but real Grin

HelloRoaring20s · 05/01/2020 22:47

I am deaf in my left ear so could buddy up with the pp who is deaf in their right ear and between we may hear the enemy creeping up behind us.

But am late 40s, very unfit and overweight so I don’t think the military will be begging me to go to the frontline.

But I speak fluent French so if they need me to intercept and translate messages on my trusty radio and with my Morse code machine i am up for that.

LotteLupin · 05/01/2020 22:54

They wouldn't care how fit as you'd be just going as cannon fodder anyhow.

LotteLupin · 05/01/2020 22:54

They'd have a job taking me. No bloody way.

Forcryingoutloudwtf · 05/01/2020 22:56

I'd be awesome.

turkeyontheplate · 05/01/2020 23:03

Another conchie here.

yesterdayhasgone · 05/01/2020 23:11

Hasn’t it always been men that get enlisted. Never known women to in this country.

Mrsmummy90 · 06/01/2020 00:43

Would you fight or just dust off your o level French?

Bonjour

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/01/2020 00:49

If they were desperate enough to want an old asthmatic designer on the frontline I’d say it’s time to surrender. Maybe I could do some propaganda.

Bunnyfuller · 06/01/2020 00:51

In a call up there would be a basic fitness test - ie no serious health conditions.

They’d then train the fitness into you! Loudly!

Served in the RAF for 17 years, loved it
