New Year's Eve; what's everyone up to today?

I'm enjoying a cup of tea...in silence!! Both girls are still sock on after a late-ish night last night.

I don't think we're doing much of anything today. I want to finish rough planning next term for my Rainbows and Guides & do a load of washing. But that's about it. Dd1 will probably play her guitar some more & dd2 will most likely mooch about with me.

No fancy parties or NYE dinner guests here, but I do have a joint of beef that I'll take out to defrost shortly; for tomorrow :)

What about you lot? Anyone partying? Or hosting a dinner party?

Working today (praying manager feels badly for us lot and sends us home a little early!) and then cooking for some friends who are coming to stay over - DH's birthday tomorrow so lovely pub lunch then too

maddiemookins16mum · 31/12/2019 10:04

I’ve changed the beds.
About to stick a steak pie base in the slow cooker for lunch tomorrow.
We have a couple of friends coming over tonight for a curry and we’ll just chill, a few drinks (not for me) and will watch the fireworks and play cards.
I have some housework to do but not much.
DP is about to do the ironing and catch up with His Dark Materials.

MRI scan of spine to start with. Meal at home tonight.

Panto, this afternoon, takeaway later with some family and a few drinks then watching the fireworks on tv before bed (if I make it till midnight!)

Bluesheep8 · 31/12/2019 11:19

I'm at work til 5pm. Then going home and staying in with a Chinese takeaway and wine.

CosmoK · 31/12/2019 11:26

Relaxing during the day ...well until DS is returned from Grandma's. Off to a friends tonight ....it could be really sedate or it could get raucous. Either way it'll be nice and we're only a 5 min walk home.

Rosie2000 · 31/12/2019 11:29

I’m just waiting for my dcs to be collected by their father then will tackle the ironing and some other households jobs. I might go to the cinema later but will probably stay home. I’m trying desperately to be upbeat until they leave, I’ll then have a good cry Xmas Grin

BearSoFair · 31/12/2019 11:29

Few close friends are coming for a buffet and a drink tonight, nothing too loud or over the top! Younger DC will be staying with my parents just to make it easier, mostly to make sure they sleep! 17yo DS1 is going to his girlfriend's house, not for a party, just an evening in with her and her family (we know her family, definitely the truth)

jmh740 · 31/12/2019 11:31

Just watch tv ds is playing on his xbox oh has taken dd to town to pick up a bag she ordered. Were going to a panto at 2 then a takeaway tonight

lovemenorca · 31/12/2019 11:33

* 17yo DS1 is going to his girlfriend's house, not for a party, just an evening in with her and her family (we know her family, definitely the truth)*

He’s 17! Would it be a problem if he was doing something a bit more raucous?!

MinnieMountain · 31/12/2019 11:33

We're at PIL's in the Spanish countryside. I'm enjoying the peace and 3 sleeping dogs whilst everyone else shops for our big meal tonight.

MIL is taking DS to visit a neighbour and his many pets later.

ineedto · 31/12/2019 11:34

In the car driving home from a night away with the DC and friends. DH and I planning to abandon kids in M&S cafe and do a quick food shop.

A few sets of friends and theirs DCs coming over tonight for tapas and wine. Quiz, music and general merriment.

Couch25k · 31/12/2019 11:43

Out to a friends for dinner with people we dont know Confused. DH wants to just chill at home with nibbles and champers before our fitness and diet resumes and I want to too..... but we will go as it's nice to be asked ....

MsMellivora · 31/12/2019 11:48

DH and I are sat in bed drinking tea and just finished the Times crossword. DS has his GF and a few of his friends coming round. I’m doing hot dogs for them and we will all get together for champagne at Midnight. DH and I will watch a film and have a drink while the teens get tipsy in the kitchen.

I know it’s really late but he usually goes off to work really early and his Mum has been here so it’s a rare treat. We are getting up at midday, DS is up tidying his bedroom as he has at least two friends staying over tonight.

Excited for the service at Ripon Cathedral followed by the candlelight procession and then this...

New Year's Eve; what's everyone up to today?
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/12/2019 11:58

I'm in the process of making a big veggie lasagne. 5 of us for lunch. Dc one out partying later. Dc 2 playing a gig later. Dp and I are on dog sitting duty and going to take him to the pub.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 31/12/2019 11:58

Cooking myself a nice dinner in front of the fire with Netflix and a glass of champers.

And pretending I totally don’t mind I was uninvited from 2 events and not invited anywhere else....I may still be slightly bitter actually Grin

Mother87 · 31/12/2019 12:07

Going to a very casual Persian 'cafe' for dinner @ 6ish with some easy-to-be-with friends/ignoring the critics and going to see CATS... then IF we have energy/still awake, may go to a friends pub to see in the new year and hope it's a better one than this god-awful one was...

KingscoteStaff · 31/12/2019 12:13

All to lunch at my mum’s, then both DC going to Winter Wonderland followed by parties.
DH and I are off to the cinema, then home before taxi service pick up at 1.30ish.

Strange how ‘No, no, don’t come and pick us up, how cringe,’ changes to ‘Happy New Year! Lovely to see you! Any chance you could drop Tom, Dick and Harriet home too?’

Likethebattle · 31/12/2019 12:21

Hogmanay here, we never call it New Year’s Eve.

Bluewavescrashing · 31/12/2019 12:23

I've removed Christmas from the house. Tree, decs, cards, all presents put away. Hoovered, dusted and mopped. Cleaned windows in the lounge.

Very relieved to have normality back!

After a casserole lunch I'll take the kids swimming then watch a film. Not sure what yet.

lovemenorca · 31/12/2019 12:43

@Mother87
Please report back re Cats!

Dowser · 31/12/2019 12:47

Getting house ready for party..won’t be much of a party..everyone I’ll..apart from us and a couple of the grandkids

MurrayTheMonk · 31/12/2019 12:49

At work having a payroll meltdown.
Out for dinner later with kids and a friend and her kids then back mine to sit round and play games until midnight. Feel rubbish-had Noro over Christmas and would rather just skip the whole thing tbh!

marvelousways · 31/12/2019 13:00

have also finished taking down Christmas decs and blitzed the house. opened all the windows for a good airing and the place feels so much better.
Have hoovered about 5 million times and there are still pine needles appearing everywhere! Now going to browse artifical trees online!
Snacks, nibbles and drinks at home tonight, roast beef dinner tomorrow. Yum!
