I've seen a wedding dress I really like

I have hopelessly low self esteem and the idea of going to a boutique makes me want to scratch my eyes out.

But this is perfect. I so hope it's nice on!

What time of year are you getting married? I'd be too hot in that for most of the year.

DickDewy · 29/12/2019 21:41

If you like it, that's all that matters.

It's 100% polyester though!

Ornamentalbutuseless · 29/12/2019 21:43

It's lovely. Try it and see, it could be a good starting point if nothing else.

That's lovely. Very simple and elegant. However the best thing to do is to go and try lots on. Have you got someone nice to go with?
If you decide against the fabric there are plenty of dresses out there that will be similar. Enjoy!

Iggleonkupsy · 29/12/2019 21:46

Beautiful dress. I hope you like it. I hadn't looked at the material on quick glance so maybe if the material isn't great then a similar dress in another material.

DariaMorgendorffer · 29/12/2019 21:47

It's gorgeous.

leapinglucy · 29/12/2019 21:50

It's lovely but polyester is notorious for causing wearers to sweat! Beware.

WeirdPookah · 29/12/2019 21:50

If you don't want to go to a boutique... the don't go.

I didn't want too, and I had my arm twisted by work colleagues, saying I was missing out blah blah, so we went. And I hated every damn moment, I felt fat, frumpy and stupid.

And I bought my dress online, altered it myself and looked amazing and I was beyond happy.

Do what makes you happy. It's your wedding. Don't allow people to tell you to do shit "because other people do".

Aquamarine1029 · 29/12/2019 21:51

It's a lovely dress, but that fit and material will be completely unforgiving. It will show absolutely everything.

Selfsettling3 · 29/12/2019 21:53

It’s beautiful but you need to be very slight to look good in that dress.

Luzina · 29/12/2019 21:53

I also was in absolute DREAD of wedding dress shops, not least because I wear plus sizes. I went to David's Bridal in Stratford Westfield in London. It was totally bearable, partly because its a big shop and not intimate bridal style experience. The assistant was fab, very businesslike and with a pleasant slightly hands off attitude. They had LOADS of dresses in loads of sizes. Was definitely worth facing my fears

Bouvier · 29/12/2019 21:56

I really, really don't want to go to a boutique. It's a small wedding in a cold church and I tend to go into a cold panic when stressed! If I like it, it'll do fine, especially with a slip underneath. I'm a size 8 and hoping to lose more weight.

It’s beautiful and you are small so it will look great on you. Buy it and try it. If it doesn’t fit perfectly take it to a seamstress

Yetanotherwinter · 29/12/2019 22:07

It looks lovely in the pic but it’s made of polyester so may not look as nice in real life. I would force myself to try a few wedding dress shops just in case you do find your dream dress. If you find this one is as nice as it looks though, then that will be perfect for you. Enjoy your special day 💐

Selfsettling3 · 30/12/2019 17:06

If you live in the northeast I can recommend a bridal shop that treats you as you want, they will ask if you want help getting on the dress, ask if you want their honest opinion, listen to what you want and nothing is a problem. They are very chilled.

You could also look at Monsoon and other online retailers. You could check the returns policies and buy them on your credit card and try them on at home.

Andahelterskelterroundmylittle · 30/12/2019 17:20

Sounds as tho it'll be perfect for you. Fingers crossed its lovely on! Congratulations

Redcrayons · 30/12/2019 17:25

Oh it’s lovely. So elegant.

As you’re slim, you’ll look gorgeous.

Megabustravelling · 30/12/2019 17:25

Lovely dress! I would recommend going to a shop though, just to see what styles suit you. I bought my wedding dress on a visit to a bridal shop, alone. It was very low key. I picked it up, tried it on, liked it and paid. No different to popping into New Look!

Dowser · 30/12/2019 17:50

Think there’s a bridal warehouse in Northallerton
..or there used to be
Lots of places have bridal sections but as I found they were mostly online
Monsoon. Phase eight, coast, Debenhams often have nice dresses.

StCharlotte · 30/12/2019 17:52

It's a gorgeous dress and sounds perfect for you Smile

(Ignore the polyester naysayers - if it made everyone sweat, no one would ever use it. And we can't all afford silk.)

mencken · 30/12/2019 17:57

pretty cut and pattern (no ugly lace and a dress for an adult woman, it can be done!) But even in the photo the material looks cheap and nasty. Hopefully you can get something similar in a better material.

no need to go to a bridal boutique, charity shops sell wedding dresses or buy second-hand (i.e used once for a few hours) on ebay etc.

Mischance · 30/12/2019 18:00

Understated elegance - lovely.

But if you are size 8, do not fart about trying to lose weight for goodness' sake.

BackOnceAgainWithATinselHalo · 30/12/2019 18:02

You could try a bridal dress sale instead. I went to one and it was like a glorious jumble sale - no gushing or OTT sales assistants.

momtoboys · 30/12/2019 18:08

Gorgeous!

winterystorm · 30/12/2019 18:11

I think it's lovely, very chic and simple.
