Inspired by two other threads (one on pensions, the other on mortgages), if you've cleared your mortgage, how old were you when you did so?

Cleared it this year and I was 37.........took it out with dp when he was 24 and I was 19. We were so lucky to benefit from the low house prices in 2001. I feel extremely sorry for kids these days.

I will pay off mine in a few months. I'll be 55.

goldpendant · 19/12/2019 23:36

Interesting- I was reading the other threads and seemed like so many had paid theirs off. I wonder what the average MNer age is?

thatonesmine · 19/12/2019 23:41

About 50 thanks to inheritance from in-laws.

KTyoupigeon · 19/12/2019 23:43

Mine has less than a year to go and I will be 53

ANiceLuxury · 19/12/2019 23:49

Do you tell people you are mortgage free?

PickAChew · 19/12/2019 23:51
  1. Have since taken out a new one on a bigger house in a more expensive area, though.
goldpendant · 19/12/2019 23:52

We aren't mortgage free. Think another 6-7 years in current rates/salaries. Confused

OP posts:
ANiceLuxury · 19/12/2019 23:53

When I googled the average age to pay your mortgage off it was 50 and the average mortgage length that it had taken was 15 years

TrophyCat · 19/12/2019 23:55

Bought my house mortgage free at 31 (inheritance)

@ANiceLuxury - my family know (but then they knew about the inheritance), a couple of my closest friends know - but apart from that no, it's not something I tend to advertise openly.

anxioussue · 19/12/2019 23:56

32/33 I forget when in the year it was

Expressedways · 19/12/2019 23:57

We’re early 30s and plan to pay it off in a few years once we know where we want to settle long term and if/when rates rise. We’ve been in a position to pay it off for about 5 years but with interest rates so low it’s earning more money invested so doesn’t make sense for us right now.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/12/2019 23:57

38 was mortgage free for a couple of years then took out a small mortgage to move again and will be mortgage free again in a couple of years.

onetiredmummy13 · 19/12/2019 23:59

I'm 31 and hubby is 33 we have enough in the bank to pay our mortgage off but instead we are looking for a bigger house and to take on a larger mortgage so I think it depends on circumstances. I have always aimed to have it paid off by 50
