Anyone got really stupid questions that someone else on here might be able to answer?

I only ask because I have a really stupid question but haven't asked in case you talk about me ...

So if someone else could ask something ridiculous first that would be great!

Why does jelly wobble?

SavoyCabbage · 18/12/2019 19:07

Something I've been meaning to look up (for at least ten years) is...you know on road signs where there is a yellow triangle or a square next to a place name, what do they mean?

Every time I get lost some I notice them and think I've no idea what they mean and promptly forget to find out.

MellowMelly · 18/12/2019 19:07

Actually sounds like I’m going to tell a joke!
Hope my question helps though?!

ffswhatnext · 18/12/2019 19:12

Why does jelly wobble?

It's about the fridge and gelling agent used, and this creates some type of elasticity.

CharlotteFlax · 18/12/2019 19:13

@SavoyCabbage I think the yellow squares on road signs are to do with diversions in place.

CharlotteFlax · 18/12/2019 19:15

@SavoyCabbage I've googled for you and I'm sort of right...

Ashamed to admit that I’ve never really understood how to use the gears on a bike properly. Could someone please explain that to me in terms that a total idiot would understand?

SavoyCabbage · 18/12/2019 19:20

Oh yes! I’m pleased that I didn’t actually need to know what they meant unless I needed to follow a diversion!

dudsville · 18/12/2019 19:22

I can't post a question because they come to me when I'm in bed or in the shower.

Iwantacookie · 18/12/2019 19:25

Does anyone know why microwives have all those extra buttons for defrost press number 2 microwave does its thing for 12 minutes?
Why is there a number 7 on a toaster who in the world eats burnt toast on purpose?

Foslady · 18/12/2019 19:27

Number 7 is for cooking potato waffles from frozen

fairygodbaker · 18/12/2019 19:30

What does 'employment land' for sale mean?

That's land that's reserved for industrial use.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 18/12/2019 19:33

Why do toasters rarely do a good job of toasting evenly? I can't understand it. Surely a toaster is not complicated technology?

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 18/12/2019 19:38

DS2 does. He bloody cremates it.

Laska2Meryls · 18/12/2019 19:38

What does 'employment land' for sale mean?
It means that it has been designated in your council's Local Plan as only to be used for building new industry units not new housing .. this could be anything from retail and industrial estate to hotels or leisure parks, depending on what your local planning authority will allow .

Is the name Santa Claus a translation of St Nicholas? Santa=Saint and Claus=Nicholas? I thought Santa means female Saint, (Santa Ana), not male?

My kids are learning Spanish and asked me - I should know this but I’ve got no clue.

sittingonacornflake · 18/12/2019 19:40

@fairygodbaker @Laska2Meryls thank you! I've literally wondered that for over a year Blush

Laska2Meryls · 18/12/2019 19:41

fairygodbaker · 18/12/2019 19:45

Instagram, from what I've seen, is mainly used as a so-called highlight reel of someone's life where they can post whatever pictures they want and 'follow' friends and strangers whose feed they like.

Snapchat is a messaging service that specialises in 'disappearing' messages after x amount of time. They also have this function where you can post multiple clips that max out at 10 secs (?) onto a daily, disappearing feed, though Instagram seems to be the medium of choice for this particular activity nowadays.

Clymene · 18/12/2019 19:48

Santa Claus is definitely a corruption of Saint Niklaas.

Gears in a bike. Low gears (1= low) give less resistance ie it's easier to pedal. That means on hills where it's really hard to pedal, it makes turning the wheels easier. On the flat, move to a higher gear because you have to pedal harder if the resistance is low.

Does that make sense?

Laska2Meryls · 18/12/2019 19:52

thanks ,fairygodbaker I was wondering ..
is pininterest the same sort of thing ?

Ratbagratty · 18/12/2019 19:56

In the trees , this time of year, there are these balls of branches, they don't look like nests. Are they nests or something else?

thefamousfiveplusone · 18/12/2019 19:56

Me. I do 🙋🏽‍♀️ and what a perfect thread for it.

My question is this - I've just had a baby with my partner. We're not married but baby will take his surname. I'm still currently known by my married surname which I don't want on our baby's birth certificate when registering. I would prefer my maiden name on there. Does this mean I will need to change it by deed poll first so that it is legal? In which case would I then have to change my documentation too before registering her birth??
