Fucking Toast Toppers

I regularly get annoyed when I remember that Heinz have discontinued Toast Toppers. I’m angry typing this out.

Anyone have any recipes to replicate them? Especially the chicken and mushroom one.

Have emailed Heinz again to bring them back, but they keep ignoring me

Yes! Try an ordinary tin of creamed mushrooms.

I prefer it to actual Toast Toppers because they got far too hot and would burn my gob off.

were they the little tins? I loved the tuna mayo and salmon jars of sandwich spread and I can't find those any more. Comfort food from my childhood. I did find Heinz Sandwich Spread in the pound shop and it was horrid - used to love it on hot toast!

My grandma always used to give me some tins in my food hamper(s) when I was at university. I loved them and they used to remind me of her when I saw them in the supermarket after she'd passed.

@MollysMummy2010 if youre on about sandwich paste. U can still get these in all supermarkets.
Our tesco has them nr tuna, hot dogs etc. But it varies

I think they had raw egg in them, so for the full processed food experience, you could try whisking an egg or two into a can of Campbells condensed mushroom soup, then you could add chunks of ham, chicken, cheese, leftover cooked veg like peppers or onions?

Trouble is that would make masses of it, but if you have a family, you could just make it for a weekend lunch for everyone.

I used to love the cheese and ham one and regularly moan that they aren’t made anymore

oh yes mum always had them in the cupboard yummy btw does anyone remember chefs square shaped soups? that was another lunch essential those little boxes stacked back of the cupboard

That’s an idea Barbara... apart from the sharing, 1) because DH thinks they look like vomit, 2) DD is only just weaning and 3) I don’t want to.

How many rounds of toast did you have per tin ? I liked it really thick so I had on two rounds.
But a friend liked it very thin so he spread it on 4 or 5 rounds . ( one meal or two snacks )

Two rounds Santa layer it on nice and thick and spoon the leftovers into my mouth cold.

This guy makes a bacon and and mushroom one. (Click on the first picture and follow it through). It seems to involve making a basic roux sauce and adding the flavouring.

Try a tin of M&S curry, tastes just like the one toast topper used to be
