What is this pain?! What new torment is this?!??!???! I've used it (bucks first fence spray) before but oh my fucking Christmas tinselled god this is AGONY.

Send help. I need some kind of rhinoplasty ASAP.

It works best when you have a second dose as well probably

See also: the E45 cream which pretends to be the good one in it’s exactly the same packaging, but when you slap it on your poor chapped face you end up recreating that scene from Home Alone

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:06

I've used it twice through the day- I've spaced out my doses- I literally am the boy from home alone right now!

I'm never sure if the pain of having your nose scoured with acid (or whatever it is!) is better than the pain of just getting a cold.

Thing is, it's not the active ingredient that burns, they've got menthol and eucalyptus in there just for shits and giggles. They should market an unscented version...

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:08

It's been 40mins and I'm still in AGONY.
Just taken some paracetamol (no ibuprofen in the house). My eye is streaming and I'm in soooo much pain! A bloody cold would be better than this!!!

OP posts:
BadgertheBodger · 17/12/2019 23:09

I once thought Olbas Oil would do the same job as Friars Balsam and chucked half a bottle into a bowl of hot water then stuck my head and a towel over the top

All I can say is faaaaaackin hell I’ll not be repeating that!!

GoKartMozart · 17/12/2019 23:11

Oh god dh swears by this stuff. If I get so much as a sniffle he's waving it at me trying to get me to use it.
I thought the smelling salts my mother used to carry around in a bottle were bad until I tried first defence.

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:11

I don't know who the hell Vick is but I will be having words as soon as my sinuses stop being pissed on by the fires of hades.

BadgertheBodger · 17/12/2019 23:11

40 minutes Shock you might need more help than paracetamol! Is it still that fiery burning at the back of you nose or has it escalated??

KingaRoo · 17/12/2019 23:11

Boots version is much better. Vicks feels like I've squirted acid up my nose. Boots one is actually quite soothing.

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:12

It just feels like the inside of my nose at the top has been stabbed. I think the spray hit a nerve or something.
Vick is a deadman tomorrow AM.

Itschristmasimallowedwine · 17/12/2019 23:12

Are you inhaling it? You’re not meant to sniff it in like you would a nose clearer thingy. Just spray it into your nose - without sniffing it up.

It never hurts when I use it.

Itschristmasimallowedwine · 17/12/2019 23:13

And your meant to point it out towards your ear. Not right up in the nose!

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:14

Did not inhale. Tilted towards the outside of my nostril as per instructions. I've used it a few times before and never had this. I only used it for this cold today and this was my third dose of the day- breakfast, lunchtime and bedtime. Now I can't sleep because my nasal cavity has been ripped open. Or that's what it feels like. No blood. Just real proper nerve pain.

OP posts:
pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:15

Just had a google. Seems like I'm not alone with this!

OP posts:
KingaRoo · 17/12/2019 23:16

I get the same thing with Vicks. Sometimes it's not too bad but then other times - wham, it's like a thousand bees have stung your nasal passages.

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:16

@KingaRoo if I ever get use of my septum back I will try boots. Never again will I trust Vick. He's an asshole.

OP posts:
pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:18

@KingaRoo that's it. A thousand bees. All up in my nasal business. The anger is fading and I now just want to chop my face off and cry. Ow ow ow.

Itschristmasimallowedwine · 17/12/2019 23:18

Sorry then OP, I’m out of solutions. The only other person who I know who it hurt is DH, but he was sniffing it up like he was a coke head Confused

Hope it feels better soon!

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:20

@Itschristmasimallowedwine thank you! Very sensible thoughts. Please join my in my solidarity against Vick. Who has commanded an army of bees to ravage my poor snuzz.

I'm now thinking doing coke would be better (never tried it but at least you get a buzz out of it compared to this).

BadgertheBodger · 17/12/2019 23:21

What if you tuck your chin to your chest for a bit, does it help? It’s my only even marginally helpful suggestion, MIL finds it helps with sinusitis

Otherwise, I’m afraid the whole nose may well have to come off

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:21

Omg. Just realised I accidentally made a bee related pun. Ffs. Can't even enjoy that rn.

OP posts:
AlaskaElfForGin · 17/12/2019 23:21

Don't diss the Vicks! I swear it's magic stuff.

SnorkMaiden81 · 17/12/2019 23:22

I tried it at weekend for the first time. Fuck me. I'm sure it works, but I'd better be suffering before I do THAT again. Shock

pemberlyshades · 17/12/2019 23:23

@BadgertheBodger the chin tuck technique doesn't really help.

I've just realised that sticking my finger up my nose helps. DH is still playing PlayStation downstairs so this may be a solution hopefully he won't notice when he comes to bed.

Either that or the paracetamol is kicking in! Thank you Jesus!!!
