Obviously they are in store now but not sure they will be good after a week. Equally I don't want to leave it too late and be left with the rubbish!

I have already bought lots of veg. It's been removed from the plastic bags, wrapped in newspaper and is in a box in the shed.

Shinyshoes2 · 17/12/2019 16:30

Mine is in the shed too .. nice and cold it will be alright

MyChristmasBauble · 17/12/2019 18:22

I’m getting my fresh stuff (except the turkey) on Sunday, probably from Tesco or Sainsburys.
I’m working Monday and don’t want to go shopping on Christmas Eve, so Sunday it is.

lettersbyowl · 17/12/2019 18:27

Potatoes, carrots, parsnips and sprouts arrive on 23rd from Tesco. Plus salad bits for Christmas Eve (go away Boxing Day AM). Red cabbage and some other bits already cooked earlier in month and are in the freezer and will only need reheating in veg.

WorraLiberty · 17/12/2019 18:33

Saturday. All our veg is frozen.

SilverySurfer · 17/12/2019 18:57

Mine will be delivered by Tesco on the 23rd although I may go into town tomorrow and see if the fruit and veg stall have sprouts on the stalk, they are nicer than ready prepped in a plastic bag.

Bickles · 17/12/2019 19:08

I’m heading to Sainsburys at 6am on Monday morning. Taking advantage of insomnia for once!

FruityWidow · 17/12/2019 20:46

Parnips, carrots, red cabbage and sprouts are all still in the ground. I'll be popping down to the allotment on Christmas Eve to fetch them Grin

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 17/12/2019 21:05

Payday is Friday so probably Sunday morning. Half marathon on Saturday so no time to go.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/12/2019 21:08

I’m still wondering where to get a turkey (well a breast or crown anyway). Not organised at all...

Nanasueathome · 17/12/2019 21:09

The local farm on Saturday morning

LemonPrism · 17/12/2019 21:10

I don't know? My nearest supermarket?

LemonPrism · 17/12/2019 21:10

Like it's just a fancy Sunday lunch people... I tend to buy it the weekend before

DeathMetalMum · 17/12/2019 21:14

Thursday local supermarket. Next day I can go is either Sunday or Xmas eve and I'm expecting both of those days to be chaos so going early to avoid it all.

Stupiddriver1 · 17/12/2019 21:14

Saturday.

Potatoes, leeks, cabbage and parsnips and sprouts should keep OK from Sat-Weds.

Salene · 17/12/2019 22:06

Got a box ordered from local farm shop to collect on 23rd

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 17/12/2019 22:09

Saturday from sainsburys. Turkey ordered from local butcher to be collected Sunday/ Monday

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 17/12/2019 22:11

Local supermarket, probably Sainsburys possibly Waitrose if I cba to drive that far. Morning of the 24th.

SoMuchToBits · 17/12/2019 22:18

23rd December.

Local greengrocers which I use all year round. Fab shop!

NigellaAwesome · 17/12/2019 22:32

Lidl, probably on Sunday.

Last year they had all their veggies at 30p a bag.

Ginkypig · 17/12/2019 22:43

My Christmas shop including veg comes on the 23rd from Tesco which gives me time to go out and get anything if it doesn't arrive.

I don't eat meat so my plan as every other year is to use the veg for Christmas Day but also in my other meals until it goes off or runs out but generally from previous experience most of it lasts for at least 5-7 days! With the exception of maybe the sliced green beans but I can't get them in Tesco so il get them in m&s and freeze them so they won't go off anyway.
Potatoes
Parsnips
Carrots
Brussels
Frozen peas
Red cabbage
Sliced beans
Onions
Can't remember if Iv forgotten anything.

Christmas Eve from our local market for the veg. We always walk into town on Christmas Eve, more for the walk than anything else so have picked up our veg from the traders who stand on the market that day for the past few years Xmas Smile

OneTooManyBathtimes · 17/12/2019 23:06

Christmas eve. Need to get strawberries last minute for our breakfast. Some veg is frozen, but we're actually eating at in laws so don't have to worry.
Our main priority is cheese. I'm getting ours tomorrow so there's still time to make sure I have the ones we want.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 18/12/2019 00:55

Remember that the potatoes should be indoors, in a dark place. If they get frost nipped they'll go black.

Totally with you on this, I’m doing the same.

We’re going to do the main Christmas food shop on Saturday when the DC are with my Mum for the day. Last year we struggled to find chantenay carrots so had to go on a hunt around a few different supermarkets.
