My first and only thought is "I hope the security staff patrolling her compound are fine"

I guess what I mean is I can’t understand/comprehend having that sort of wealth where you can spend £50million on necklaces, etc. Because your jewellery is normally fairly down the list of other expenses such as housing, cars, living expenses. So to have £50 million knocking around for unnecessary stuff seems bonkers.

Like a pp I do suspect a bit of journalistic licence in the amount though.

Bernie’s billions are being pissed up the wall in record time, there won’t be anything for the grandchildren to inherit at this rate!

HairyToity · 17/12/2019 14:28

Just been on a rabbit hole. Tamara's nephew might be able to advise on replacement watches:

Tamara Ecclestone has her own charitable foundation and regularly donates tens of thousands of pounds to various appeals. She donated £11000 to that baby Charlie Yates whose parents were fighting to get him treatment in America.

I wouldn't lose sleep over them personally, but I am of course glad no one was hurt.

longwayoff · 17/12/2019 16:00

I would have thought it impossible to burgle her house. It's near to Kensington Palace and has several embassies as neighbours. Either end of the street has security guards and hefty gates. Very odd.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 17/12/2019 16:11

I have lived and worked in that area, for a very famous person who lives there and I used to pass that house daily. There is a private security firm who patrols the streets there, paid for by the various wealthy celebs who all club together to pay for it on top of the private in house security. I can't understand how this can have happened tbh. These houses have 24 hour security and constantly manned cctv. The person I worked for came across someone who had broken in and his security was already pounding up the stairs before he even raised the alarm. They'd seen him enter on CCTV.

Shreksearcandle · 17/12/2019 22:55

Bernie's millions aren't being pissed up the wall/ rapidly depleting! From what I've read on the Ecclestone sisters they've both obviously lived very privileged lives but they have the best financial advice and have invested very well (including in jewellery clearly 😬). They're both rich in their own rights now, not living off daddy anymore.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 17/12/2019 23:16

I think they have a trust. They are just living off the income from the investments. I would imagine the capital remains untouched or is even growing.

ViciousJackdaw · 18/12/2019 01:55

Our own dear Queen owns around four billion pounds worth of jewels herself.

Tartyflette · 18/12/2019 02:01

Yep, the £50 million is for the insurance company.
Wink
There will be lots of negotiation going on.

Dowser · 18/12/2019 02:57

Twatty
It sounds fabulous darling lol
I love to hear about a good tantrum 😁

Womenwotlunch · 18/12/2019 06:20

The jewellery is an investment .
South East Asian buy a lot of gold as an investment and sometimes sell or pawn it if they have financial difficulties
Yes fifty million pounds worth of jewellery sounds obscene, but if you think of that as cash it seems acceptable

Ghostontoast · 18/12/2019 10:47

They must have very good trust fund then what with buying/selling/refurbishing Candy Spelling’s house and paying off Mr Stunt (settlement must have been huge not to mention lawyers fees and what money he spent on sports cars and hair gel).

I would imagine the jewel thief is someone who does have inside knowledge.

HairyToity · 18/12/2019 13:03

I have worked for people with trusts, their spending is no where near as extravagant as Tamara and Petra's. I would be very surprised if they are not eating into their capital.

Bernies grandson James is 3 years older than Tamara, and he appears to have held down jobs. His daughter Deborah and son in law appear to have raised a more grounded child, than Bernie and Slavica with their spendthrift daughters.

I'm sure they are kind girls, but they do seem to care way to much about conspicuous consumption, and not the environment.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/12/2019 17:30

I read somewhere the trust is £1.5 billion. Shock

SebandAlice · 18/12/2019 19:15

Bernie when ill years ago signed over the trust to his then wife Slavica. When they divorced as the trust was in her name she controlled it and has to pay him from it. She gave the daughters full access much to his disgust which is when their spending went crazy. It is well known he hates how much they spend.

Aloe6 · 18/12/2019 21:09

Regardless of how much or little you have, being burgled is a complete violation of the space where you should feel safest. Sentimental items can’t be replaced either.

longwayoff · 24/12/2019 10:01

I've only known one person with a trust fund, an unemployed drug addict who never had a penny of his own. He could apply to the trust to buy things on his behalf, house, car, for him to use but Trust retained ownership. Also an account at Fortnum's food hall but with a spend limit so he couldn't order e.g. crates of wine to resell for cash. He thought he was very hard done by.
