Hello,

I'm going to a meal in a fancy hotel for lunch and I've just realised I don't have any closed black shoes and want to wear black tights

Can I wear black tights and open toe
d shoes or will that be a big no no?

No!

BigBairyHollocks · 08/12/2019 09:03

No please do not do that. What is the dress like and what other shoes have you got?

Littlefish · 08/12/2019 09:03

Sorry, but I think that's a definite no.

Have you any ankle boots?

Doyoumind · 08/12/2019 09:06

No.

Adviceplease1234 · 08/12/2019 09:07

No sorry

beanaseireann · 08/12/2019 09:07

Noooooooo
Ghastly

Ohyesiam · 08/12/2019 09:08

No way

AtillatheHun · 08/12/2019 09:09

Christ no. I know a woman who wears open platform sandals all winter with her black opaques as work attire and I cringe for her every time.
M&S do open toe tights (still fairly grim)

user5656 · 08/12/2019 09:09

Definitely not.

OverByYer · 08/12/2019 09:11

You can get nude tights with a nice toe from M&S which I have worn with strappy sandals before

OverByYer · 08/12/2019 09:12

*nude toe, not reinforced

WhatsNextMrsLandingham · 08/12/2019 09:12

Any tights with open toe shoes/sandals are a no for me, but you wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Is there no possibility of buying/borrowing a different pair of shoes for the evening? Or could you brave bare legs?

TokyoSushi · 08/12/2019 09:17

Definite no! Ankle boots?

Motherofmonsters · 08/12/2019 09:50

I've got some ankle boots I could wear.
They're not overly stylish but probably rank higher than tights and open toes

I think you can if you’re a bit no fucks given. I am not which would show so I wouldn’t try haha. Dress Like A Parisian has a post about it dresslikeaparisian.com/tights-in-open-toe-yes-or-no/

SpiderCharlotte · 08/12/2019 10:11

Holly Willoughby did this week!

I, however, couldn't get away with it at all and would go for the ankle boots.

beanaseireann · 08/12/2019 10:13

Could you buy a pair of cheap black shoes ?

DoraleeRhodes · 08/12/2019 10:15

I’d just do it, who’s really going to be looking at your toes that long/closely to particularly notice or care?

PeanutButterCheesecake · 08/12/2019 10:28

People I work with wear coloured shoes with black tights. It makes me feel sad inside for them. Please don't do this, it's worse or it's the same!!

Dowser · 08/12/2019 10:30

I don’t like that look at all.
Nude would be much better.
I would never wear black tights with anything but black footwear
I still remember in my childhood where it was a thing to wear black tights and white shoes..( not on me thank god) but it looked horrific
No doubt it will come back as a new trend.

beanaseireann · 08/12/2019 14:05

Even Holly couldn't pull it off. Ghastly

BrotherlyLove · 08/12/2019 14:07

If Holly Willoughby can't get away with it, nobody can.

SpiderCharlotte · 08/12/2019 15:47

It just looks 'off' to me I don't really know why.

charm8ed · 08/12/2019 16:08

I’ve only got one pair of black heels, they are open toe I and wear them with approx 15 denier tights in the winter on nights out, I didn’t realise it was a no no. All the nights out I thought I looked quite nice there were probably women looking thinking OMG what is she wearing?!
