Very busy and a bit smelly, as Stanlow is very close by...

I’d choose frodsham over Helsby, wider housing choice, more to the town and starting to get some nice little independent places. Helsby is quieter but also less “naive”. Chester is easy from either, either to drive or hop on the rain for very short journey (though irritating walk at the other end).
Commuting to Ellesmere port is a bit of a pain from either in that the motorway gets very congested and the back roads don’t help much as kick you out by Cheshire oaks motorway roundabout, which is always crazy.

If you have that much to spend I’d personally go for one of the villages unless you really want to be in town. Alvanley, Norley, Kingsley, Manley all have some lovely houses, Hoole on the edge of Chester also has some lovely older properties. Tarporley and Christleton are also lovel, though more of a commute ( though still not much, depending what you’re used to).

To be honest Little Sutton is a bit too close to Ellesmere Port for my taste, but perhaps I’m being snobbish- however with your budget I presume you do want to live somewhere nice, hence the village suggestion.

Good luck- that bit of Cheshire has some lovely countryside.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Not finding a great deal to look at but hopefully just the time of year and more will come on the market. Would the commute be easier from the Wirral side or from south of Chester? Would north Wales be too far?

Hi
Am now in Chester and looking at areas!
So far have been to Heswall, Neston and Ness to look at houses and think too far from Chester. Have driven round Upton which seems good but maybe too much of a suburb? Like the look of Mollington and have driven down Berwick Road in Little Sutton which we really liked!
So am now looking for local knowledge re Little Sutton please.
Am going to explore Tarvin, Tarporley, Christleton and Frodsham today. Any other suggestions where to look? Just to add budget is up to £700k, but prefer £600-650, and upto 30min commute to Ellesmere Port.
Thanks.

What did you make of Heswall and Neston etc OP?

DumbFlagScum · 18/12/2019 09:01

Traffic around Chester is a nightmare. I'd do wirral side for just an easier life and proximity to beaches etc.

Thought it was a long way to go for what it was- sorry to anyone who lives there. I expected Heswall to have more of a village feel with a proper centre, the houses we were interested in were around Oldfield Road. We thought the area had some lovely houses but the road was quite steep and some areas of the road were full of potholes. Neston had more of a village feel but not much there. I think if you wanted to be near Liverpool they would be great but we would rather be closer to Chester. Also the prices of the houses didn’t seem to be much cheaper than round Chester.

Hi My son is in Manchester but we don't want to live there. I have been looking at Cheshire, Chester in particular. Have now been put off Frodsham due to motorway and Oil Refinery. We want to be close to a town a house with a driveway so I can walk to get a train or bus to work. Any suggestions on an areas with low pollution motorway.
