Recommendations for a power bank (for recharging iPhone)

Went onto Amazon and there are literally thousands!

Has anyone got any recommendations?

Am looking for something portable I can take in hand luggage, that has a decent amount of power to be able to recharge iPhone more than once and that comes with inbuilt charging cable (don't want to have to carry cable separately). Not fussed about it having multiple ports, a torch or it charging devices other than an iPhone .

This one is recommended by TechRadar -
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07XJY2WFB?ascsubtag=trd-5319391331231832651-21&th=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 - but fuck me, it weighs 1lb (or is that not atypical)?

that would do but you would need a cable for it, most power banks wont have inbuilt charging as many devices have different cables

We use the Juice ones from Sainsbury's. Really reliable, easy, small etc.
Or look on the Juice website.

I spent about an hour last night searching for just what you’ve described! Haven’t found it yet.

Aridane · 04/12/2019 07:41

Please let me know your findings.

I started off by looking at this article / review in TechRadar - www.techradar.com/uk/news/top-portable-chargers#best-power-banks-for-capacity - but it just made me realise how little I know and sort of seems to assume a base know, edge.

It did indicate there were ones with 'lightning' cables - which google tells me are for Apple products - which would work for me as it's just an iPhone I'm interested in charging

I haven’t found one I’m happy with yet.
The ones with built in cables seem to be twice the price as the others and the reviews don’t seem brilliant.

Like you, I want one that’s for the iPhone with a cable in built. I’d like it to be light, 10,000mAh (seems quite high) and would ideally like it to have an LED display showing what % of charge it has left.

I’m still looking!

Aridane · 04/12/2019 17:58

I will look again this evening / tomorrow and post if I find anything.

What do you mean byn'light'? I was staggered to see some weigh c.1lb!

Aridane · 04/12/2019 17:58

I mean, how light do they go?

We use anker ones they are heavy but do the job and hold quite a bit of charge.

greenlobster · 04/12/2019 18:35

We have the Imuto one you linked to, it's great but is pretty heavy. It'll fully charge an iphone about 6 or 7 times. Is good for long trips etc

For daily use, dd has this one www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00P8SY7HQ?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 which will charge the phone once or twice - very small and light.

An iphone battery is approx 3,000mAh, so just work out how many times you need to charge it from the power bank and choose the size accordingly. The larger the capacity, the heavier the power bank will be.Also the 20,000mAh one takes a loooong time to charge!

I wouldn't recommend a built-in cable personally. it'll break long before the power bank does.

HerBigChance · 04/12/2019 18:41

I've got an Anker one like a PP, would definitely recommend it.

ClientListQueen · 04/12/2019 18:46

I have an anker one that I really like

Aramox · 04/12/2019 18:47

Anker are great and a proper brand iyswim. Just use the same cable you normally charge with.

ClientListQueen · 04/12/2019 18:48

@fedup21 no built in cable but this has good reviews

We have Anker ones. Like a PP says, they are heavy but effective. They also take ages to charge up, but will do roughly three full charges of an iPhone.

AliceLittle · 04/12/2019 19:45

Anker 26k mAh.

WelshMammaofaSlovak · 04/12/2019 19:47

We have a Mophie - it's about the size of 1 kindle and the weight of 3 but it's brilliant and will let dh and I maintain our phones on a 5 day camping trip in the middle of nowhere. I also love having it in my bag as I feel like I can use to swing at anyone I feel to be a threat as I go about my business!!!! It wasn't cheap - £85 4 years ago - but we have used it so much and it's outlasted all the cheap shite ones that barely manage one charge. You get what you pay for in the world of charger packs.

fedup21 · 04/12/2019 20:18

@ClientListQueen I can’t see a cable-has that definitely got one?

ClientListQueen · 04/12/2019 20:30

@fedup21 yes it shows it in the other photos on amazon and in the description

BrokenWing · 04/12/2019 20:46

I have 2 smaller anker ones with a little 3" anker cable. They come with a drawstring bag to keep charger and cable in.

Having two small ones gives more flexibility, if I need for all day I'll take 2, if ds is going out and didn't charge his phone he takes one and it is lighter to carry.

fedup21 · 04/12/2019 20:47

yes it shows it in the other photos on amazon and in the description

I think it comes supplied with a cable/cables but it’s not a built in one like some of the other models.

lifeisgoodagain · 04/12/2019 20:53

I bought one from Argos before a long haul flight, it's now very useful because my battery is shot. It's compact but hold 4 full charges

fedup21 · 04/12/2019 21:04

This one looks ok

Anything from Anker. My husband is really into tech, and he says they're comparable quality to some luxury brands.
I have on (about 3 years old now) that I dropped in a puddle in the carpark at work, it stayed there all night and looked a bit battered so was probably ran over...bit it still bloody works! It's a marvelous thing really!
