Les Miserables

Did anyone watch the staged concert tonight screened at cinemas? Or indeed was anyone lucky enough to watch it in the flesh?

This was my first encounter of Les Mis I had no idea what it was about had only ever heard Susan Boyle sing 'I dreamed a dream' on BGT but OMG it was amazing!

Such an epic cast tonight too with Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Matt Lucas. I loved Katy Secombe and Matt together. Hard to imagine anyone else in their place.

My local cinema was sold out with two main screens showing it. Never seen a cinema so busy. I only found out it was showing today and there were only a few single seats left so I did a first and went on my own. Luckily I was sat next to a lady and her (reluctant) husband so I had someone to chat to during the interval.

Seeing this actually live is now going on my bucket list.

Magical. Lucas in particular was HILARIOUS. Does anyone know the name of the boy who, played Gavroche? He was brilliant and so CUTE!

I watched it and loved it. Saw the show this year in Birmingham and booked to see it again next year. Would love to go see it at the sondheim. I love that it was screened at the cinema. Gave people a chance to see the show at a fraction of the cost. Not everyone can afford show prices. 👍😍

It's not just the cost of tickets, it's a matter of getting to theatres if you aren't in a big city. We do see a few shows on tour once in a while (eg Book of Mormon earlier this year) , but it's a pain to get there and back.

I always wondered why fantine didn’t just lie and say she was married but her husband died in the war.

We saw it at the cinema on Monday night and really enjoyed it!

The audience were a right grumpy bunch though-nobody clapped!!! My mum got proper into it and even shouted "WE LOVE YOU, ALFIE!" at the end. Oh dear lol Grin

I have seen the show a few hundred times. I do work on Les Miserables the musical though, have done for many many years! I will not say what my role is though, as there are people in the cast and crew who I know are on MN. its so nice to read all the positive comments, and good to see so many people enjoy the show!
Fun fact for you: Each performance has 392 costume changes. That includes over 5000 individual articles and 85 wigs! We open again at the Sondheim (formally the Queens Theatre) on the 18th December. Currently the theatre is extremely dusty as the renovations come to an end. The hard hats and Hi vis vests are extremely flattering (not)!

Just seen it at the cinema. May have cried like a baby Blush. It was amazing.

Have seen stage show about 30 times!! Went to staged concert. Was amazing!! Saw at cinema too. I'd say to anyone who has only seen the dire film to give the show a go. Going again in March for the new production at the Sondheim. Went to the 25th Anniversary Concert at the 02. Awesome! It's on DVD and is well worth watching particularly the special ending

Frazzled2207 · 06/01/2020 19:07

I couldn't get worked up about a cinema screening of a staged concert but have seen it on tour three times and liked the film, though of course seeing it "in the flesh" is much better.
Hope you get tickets for Glasgow OP. I love it!
