Two mattresses on a king sized frame!

I'm wondering whether anyone has tried this as a solution to a fidgety bed fellow?

I've got a nice (although squeaky) king sized bed frame and have been thinking about getting 2 small single beds and making them up individually with single duvets (there's also a duvet stealing issue plus the fact that I like a top sheet as well as a duvet, weirdo that I am).

Is it worth all the effort? I can't afford a new super king bed so this seemed like a next best option, with some good bargains around at the moment.

Then there's the snoring...😩

@AnotherEmma actually he could have a bigger house and the DC all live with him Wink

Always have a double duvet on a single bed I sent my dd off to university with a double duvet she loves it because its freezing down there!
I used to have a king size duvet on my double bed too unfortunately I had to increase my bed size due to ds sleeping in with me strangely takes up more room than an adult

@Elodie2019 unless I'm missing something, IKEA don't do the 2ft 6 mattresses sadly.

I can't go bigger because I'm stuck with the frame but I'd like to spend up to about £500 on the mattresses (ideally reduced from much more of course 😂)

We had 2 singles on a 6 foot frame, and it was horrendous. It was really difficult to make, and made absolutely no difference to DH disturbing me with his restless legs. So we gave up and got a superking mattress which is far easier to make.

If someone is disturbing you, the only answer is competely separate beds. Our next beds will be two four foots with a big gap in between and barbed wire Grin

We have a homemade bed made from 3 4x1 ikea kallax units on their side and a trimmed to 190 from 200 long ikea kingsize slat base. We then have two decent thickness 2ft6 matresses from Amazon.

I love the dividing line. DH used to say it was me that stole the covers and took up the bed but then we stayed in a holiday rental with two singles pushed together and two single duvets. He swore his was child size so we swapped. He claimed i must have swapped back because it was tiny again and his bed was smaller than mine so we swapped those too.

When we got home I'd loved the arrangement so much I started a mission to convert him. Duvets first then the bed.

As previously mentioned when DH turns and fits in the night I'm not bounced out of bed. I still get the odd limb thrown across me when he's very fitful but it's so much better. I get up with the DC in the night and it's much less stressful getting in and out of bed.

It's easier to change the sheets and I love being able to snuggle the duvet around me, or throw it off. It's all mine.

Seperate rooms each with their own ensuite would be my ultimate heaven.

we have a five foot bed and a superking duvet....that works, not so much for the fidgeting, but I am the fidgeter so that's not really a problem for me (selfish!!)

if your bed is creaky you should maybe check all the screws and maybe stick joints together with silicon sealant that you could peel off if required in the future

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 02/12/2019 21:14

Good call @LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow, I will get him to check all the screws before adding any new mattresses

@RippleEffects that is hilarious about the duvets

To add insult to injury DH moaned that when I was heavily pregnant me turning over disturbed him due to the bounce factor 🤬

AnotherEmma · 02/12/2019 21:33

I broke our bed when I was pregnant Blush In my defence it was old and not a particularly sturdy frame!
