What does taking ecstasy feel like?

After reading a thread on here I realised I'm possibly in the minority. I never took it, would have been utterly petrified. Loads of my mates did it in their clubbing years... I was never pressured and I don't regret not doing it.

But I do wonder so for those of you who did, what did it feel like?

I felt like I loved the world and the world loved me, like everything was shining both literally and metaphorically BUT the handful.of times I took it, each and every time I was convinced I'd pissed myself. Inane, dopey grin on my face, happier than I'd ever been, but patting my crotch and legs every five minutes to make sure I hadn't actually wet myself. Looking back, all I can think is "dickhead" and it's not something I'd ever want my DC to do. Then the Leah Betts awareness campaign came around and it put me off ever doing it again.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 02/12/2019 00:07

Never had it and never would. Leah Betts' death scared the hell out of me. I can get euphoric over music/live gigs without drugs.

PinkBalloon123 · 02/12/2019 00:24

Didn't you ever worry though once you'd dropped it? Didn't you ever think that's it now, I could die tonight because I've just taken a pill?

Fucking incredible. Everything as above and more. The empathy and love you felt for your fellow human was just indescribable. Music made you cry with happiness - euphoria of the highest order.

God, I'd love just one more night...if I could only guarantee the safety and strength (and they wouldn't inactivity negatively in any of the ailments/medication I now take as a slightly creaky 41 yr old).

Vinosaurus · 02/12/2019 00:51

REACT negatively ("inactivity"?!)

arethereanyusernamesleftatall · 02/12/2019 00:51

Didn't you ever think that's it now, I could die tonight because I've just taken a pill?

Nope! If you were out raving, you were surrounded by literally thousands of other people, all on ecstasy, none of them dropping down dead.

arethereanyusernamesleftatall · 02/12/2019 00:52

God, I'd love just one more night.

Me too, but I'm massively overweight (literally twice the weight I was in my raving days) and I'm worried my heart couldn't take it.

beelzeboob · 02/12/2019 01:03

@TheUnquestionedAnswer Leah Betts died of hyponatraemia... she drank so much water trying to “flush” the ecstasy out that she overloaded her system and died.
Ecstasy didn’t kill her.

RonaldMcDonald · 02/12/2019 01:17

Absolutely lovely

1300cakes · 02/12/2019 01:48

Really happy, feel connected to everyone around and the earth itself, feel empathy and of course really enjoying the music.

You have amazing conversations, which is the best part if you normally struggle with conversation like I do.

What was interesting for me is that although I haven't taken it for years, that feeling of empathy stayed with me in a way and I understand people better. The insights you come to on it are mostly true. Which is a bit different from other drugs, eg, lsd, where you might think about something for five hours but later realise what a load of shit you were thinking.

My DH hasn't done it and isn't interested in trying. I obviously respect that but secretly feel a little disappointed because he won't ever feel that intense love for me.

JingsMahBucket · 02/12/2019 01:49

How long does the high last? I never got around to trying it either even though I was in clubs too.

kleew1 · 02/12/2019 01:51

I took it a lot in the space of 3 years, was hit or miss how I’d feel... you’d have great nights and horrible nights. But always horrible feeling the next day AND you’d over share on secrets!

Then I collapsed repeatedly one night, couldn’t sleep it off and kept having the same phrases going over and over in my head for hours and thoughts ‘that’s it I’m going to be stuck like this’ never ever touched it again. Ever.

MiniMum97 · 02/12/2019 02:15

Amazing! You love everyone and feel confident and beautiful. You also look beautiful when you look in a mirror! You want to dance. A lot. And feel really horny. And everything feels amazing - smoking, kissing, touching. I really miss it.

Abouttoblow · 02/12/2019 02:19

The best way I found to describe it to anyone who had never taken it was the film Limitless with Bradley Cooper.

squeekums · 02/12/2019 02:26

Euphoric, happy, bouncy, floaty, social, energetic.
It turns introvert me into a social butterfly with NO anxiety
I love the feeling, its heaven to me
Add in some LSD for a candy flip and its even better

Id always advise people try get a test kit that reads MDMA
Yeah pills are mad fun but you gotta be smart and know its a risk, testing lessens that risk cos at least you know the purity or lack thereof of what your taking

TheNameGames · 02/12/2019 03:19

I loved my ecstasy nights Smile Thinking back to those nights where I made my best friends, where every person I met was my best friend. We exchanged life stories, secrets, passions and dreams, kisses and everything else and then I used to wake up the next day with random phone numbers and names in my phone who I never contacted again in my life... and the next day when I came down and even breathing was the enemy as I shivered in bed lol.

I can get euphoric over music/live gigs without drugs.

I’m sure you can but it’s not the same. Nowhere near. And people might say “it sounds like getting drunk” - it’s not. It’s something else entirely. I wouldn’t take any now but a PP said when they are 80 and they might take some and that does sound like a great idea Grin I remember being on a night in Brixton on E and there was a granny there who was on it and she was living her best life and we all absolutely loved her (of course we did, we were off our faces, we would love anything and everything).

It just feels like nothing else. ^ Reminiscing has made me really^ miss those days as you can probably tell lol. I once took 8 and stayed up solidly for 39 hours dancing. I can barely tolerate a bottle of wine over a couple of hours these days.

GumboDrop · 02/12/2019 08:00

Leah Betts didn't die from the ecstacy itself; she drank excessive amounts of water having read that she needed to be well hydrated on drugs, and that killed her.

PinkBalloon123 · 02/12/2019 08:11

If Leah Betts hadn't have taken ecstasy she would not have ended up brain damaged via over consumption of water. Yes the tablet itself didn't kill her but I still think "she died after taking ecstasy" applies here. Exactly the reason I never did it... I'm a panicker.

And if that person didn’t get in that car they wouldn’t have been involved in that car crash and died.

It sounds blunt. But it needs to be said. Leah Betts case happened in early 90s i think, or maybe late 90s? How many stories about death from ecstasy has there been in the news since then? And in comparison to death from alcohol news stories?

FabbyChix · 02/12/2019 08:43

No effect on me at all

honeyloops · 02/12/2019 08:52

Beautiful. Just pure joy and love and everything feels amazing - I did it watching one of my favourite bands at a festival and it will always be one of my best memories, dancing and singing my heart out feeling absolutely connected to their music and to the people I was with and so loved and happy!

I'm a panicker too by nature so I did it v infrequently but whenever I did I always had an incredible time (and comedowns didn't really seem to affect me too badly).

Caramel78 · 02/12/2019 08:58

I used to take it at home with an ex boyfriend and we would listen to music and feel so loved up together from it. It would always take my anxiety away completely too and I would just be living in the present moment feeling incredibly happy.
I was very nervous the first couple of times so would only take half a tablet until I felt more confident that I was fine and wouldn’t be dying.
Taking 5htp the next day can help with the comedown as it gives you a boost of seratonin to avoid you getting depressed

Velveteenfruitbowl · 02/12/2019 09:14

That sounds a lot like going to a really good gig. There’s a passage in Steinbeck’s To a God Unknown that describes the feeling well. I suppose it’s just as well I never tried it, it seems like it wouldn’t be necessary for me. I can understand why people that don’t naturally feel that way would want it though. I was always too frightened of the risk of dodgy pills/rape to do it. Does the ecstasy itself gave any risks though?

Ribenaberriesgowoo82 · 02/12/2019 09:14

@kleew1, sounds like you had a pill cut with Ket. Not nice if you're not expecting it. That's the problem with drugs, you just never know.

I loved raving and pills etc but far more cautious nowadays. Barely drink anymore too. Even when not heavily pregnant as I am now. My brain and body can't cope with the comedown off drugs or booze anymore.

Bloody good thing too I spose but like a PP, I'd love just one last night of it if I could guarantee safety. Such an awesome feeling.

refusetobeasheep · 02/12/2019 09:29

Have you given birth? And did you get that totally euphoric feeling immediately after? well, ecstasy is about half as euphoric as that.
