What do you say (if anything) first day of the month?

I know it's daft nonsense but the only two I grew up with are 'white rabbit white rabbit white rabbit' and 'a pinch and a punch, it's the first of the month'.

I don't know if these are nationwide or if there are any other variations!

White rabbits, x3. Found myself saying it and thinking of my long gone mum this morning.

SpinySue · 01/12/2019 08:35

Rabbits rabbits rabbits, but only on a month that has an R in it! 😂
Makes perfect sense huh🤨

Cyberworrier · 01/12/2019 08:36

Rabbits, rabbits, rabbits. White rabbits x 3 is on the first of April in my family! Is it a Scottish thing? My Southern English friends think I’m mad when I’ve said it.

Ffsnosexallowed · 01/12/2019 08:38

A pinch and a punch for first of the month, followed by other person saying "a slap and a kick for being so quick". Thanks for the reminder!

sueelleker · 01/12/2019 08:47

Rabbits- and if it's raining, wet rabbits!

Ellapaella · 01/12/2019 08:48

Pinch, punch, first of the month no returns

MaidenMotherCrone · 01/12/2019 08:51

White rabbits/pinch punch.

Kitkatfordinner · 01/12/2019 08:54

A pinch and a punch for the first of the month and no returns.

Fakeflowersaremynewnormal · 01/12/2019 08:56

We've never said white rabbits, only pinch punch first of the month- it's not very nice is it?

onemouseplace · 01/12/2019 08:57

Rabbits Rabbits Rabbits here as well (only in months with an r in) - I say it to myself though as soon as I wake up as DH would think I was barking. It’s something my Lincolnshire born Nan always did.

Angie6868 · 01/12/2019 08:57

A friend of mine sends me a text on the first of every month saying "pinch punch first of the month". It drives me nuts

defectiveinspector · 01/12/2019 09:01

White rabbits for me and I was wondering this morning why on earth I say it. I was told it was to bring good luck for the month, but only if said out loud and before you say anything else. Complicated! I'm Welsh, but lots of Irish in there too.

OhHellYa · 01/12/2019 09:02

Umm what? Grin

Reallybadidea · 01/12/2019 09:03

I never heard of either of those growing up. Feel like I had a deprived childhood now Grin

fromthefloorboardsup · 01/12/2019 09:05

Pinch, punch, first of the month and white rabbits. We're Londoners.

shippa · 01/12/2019 09:07

Never heard of this! People are weird Grin

SouthernComforts · 01/12/2019 09:09

White rabbits x3 when I remember. I thought it has to be the first thing you say on the 1st too.

sockittome123 · 01/12/2019 09:13

A pinch and a punch for first of the month, followed by other person saying "a slap and a kick for being so quick".

I've also heard of "a punch in the eye for being so sly". And in an Ant & Dec sketch... "When the second day falls, the result is a swift kick in the..." Grin

soupforbrains · 01/12/2019 09:13

I'm from Hampshire and I have never heard of all this rabbit business, white or otherwise.

We say "pinch punch first of the month" followed by the retaliation of "slap and a kick for being so quick" but you can only retaliate if the first person didn't add "no returns"

Hepsibar · 01/12/2019 09:15

White rabbits

BuildBuildings · 01/12/2019 09:18

Rabbits rabbits rabbits
Tails tails tails

Say this 3 times to myself so 9 of each in total. I have a very vague memory of my mum saying my great grandmother used to do this. I think I've added in the 3 times bit though.

ShouldI101 · 01/12/2019 09:21

I thought you only had to say white rabbits on the 1st May
