What do you say (if anything) first day of the month?

I know it's daft nonsense but the only two I grew up with are 'white rabbit white rabbit white rabbit' and 'a pinch and a punch, it's the first of the month'.

I don't know if these are nationwide or if there are any other variations!

As a child it used to be “a kick and punch for the first of the month. White rabbit, white rabbit, white rabbit.” Immediately followed by “a nip and a kick for being so quick”

Now I tend to just say “How is it already. Where has the year gone?!”

Cyberworrier · 01/12/2019 09:25

Oh @ShouldI101 you are probably right- I was slightly unsure of April or May! (And my mum is chief ritual keeper)
Where are you from?

soupforbrains · 01/12/2019 09:35

The rabbit thing seems to be very universal. I've no idea why I've never heard of it.

Maybe because I live near Watership Down we're all just sick of rabbits Grin

imnottoofussed · 01/12/2019 09:39

I've heard of the white rabbits thing but that's only on 1st of one particular month not every month ( can't remember which month) I'm from northwest England

White rabbits here. Only months with an r in, and it has to be the first thing you say out loud (I’d already been talking shite to the dog this morning before I remembered so there’s my good luck gone)

North West England.

Tink1990 · 01/12/2019 09:53

Rabbits rabbits rabbits but only in months with an R in the name!

Brooksay · 01/12/2019 10:24

"Pinch punch first day of the month" , followed by, "punch kick for being so quick". Got it from my mum. She also said, on new years eve, "see you next year"..

MrsBirkett · 01/12/2019 10:27

White rabbits

JuneSpoon · 01/12/2019 10:29

I say "oh my God I can't believe it's (month) already"

Gwenhwyfar · 01/12/2019 10:29

Never heard of this.

Divebar · 01/12/2019 10:32

Oh I told my daughter this recently “ pinch punch first day of the month. White rabbit. No return” the last bit meant they couldn’t do it back to you. No idea of the origins but I’m from the East Midlands originally

Cailleach · 01/12/2019 10:34

White rabbits.
