What are you getting your Harry-Potter-obsessed child(ren) for Christmas?

My 8-year-old daughter is utterly HP obsessed, which makes Christmas pretty easy in a way, but there’s so much Potter merchandise around it’s hard to know where to start.

We’re getting her some HP Lego (her other obsession) - does anyone have any other recommendations? Particularly for a nice set of Hufflepuff robes - or anything crafty ...

Does she like writing? There's some good letter writing kits out there, and she could go for a walk for a feather and make a quill?
Little badges for her school bag? Or patches she has to sew or iron on?
A friend made a beautiful cross stitch Harry and hedwig when my baby was born.

If you google Harry Potter crafts a origami set comes up as well as knitting and crochet sets?
On amazon they do a music box that you turn the handle and it plays the theme music. They also do a sweet box that includes a frog, Bertie botts beans, butter beer and something else I think?

Drinkciderfromalemon · 20/11/2019 12:19

Mine is out the other side of this now, but things she loved...
-trip to the studios
-a 'real' robe
-a 'real' wand
-marauder's map
-long scarf a la harry

DD is getting hp pj's (actually Father Christmas is bringing them for everybody!) from matalan. Plus hp lego of course, she wants the Great Hall and the Expecto Patronum set. I've got the advent calendar for her and may get the colouring book as well. Her birthday is also in December so we're going to hp studio tour so no doubt will have to get something there.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/11/2019 12:21

Try a big Primark.
I picked up a Hermione pin badge and light up cup in Sainsbury's last week. They have some lovely Hedwig pyjamas as well.
Also looking at an owl adoption for her- there's quite a few out there.
Argos have some nice looking jewellery.

DD is also getting Prisoner of Azkaban illustrated- she gets one every birthday/Christmas.

You can get a personalised "letter from Hogwarts" from the Platform 93/4 shop - they have a good online selection of other bits too.

ShellsandSand · 20/11/2019 12:37

Golden stitch book light. It clips to the book and projects a lumi light for night time reading. She will love it. We got it from boots. Boots also ha e HP toiletries and cosmetics.

MrsCasares · 20/11/2019 12:45

There is a Harry Potter advent calendar, think I saw it on the John Lewis website.

Spied · 20/11/2019 12:49

Get the sorting hat so she can sort all her friendsGrin. Around £40.I saw it in Smyth's.
There's always the flying snitch in most shops ( if she hasn't already got one).
Love the bath bombs in boots too.

Not a present as such, but I've spent years doing Harry Potter quizzes for my kids; they're 15 and 17 now and I still have to do one, to celebrate the start of a school holiday. It started when they were about 5 and 7 and has become a fixture! I write a list of questions and read them out and they peer mark the answers Grin

bruffin · 20/11/2019 12:52

Have s look on redbubble, you can get loads of themed stuff.

pigeononthegate · 20/11/2019 12:52

Also ds2 has a full-size Marauders' Map, it's a really beautiful thing and really worth the £30 it cost.

Mintypea5 · 20/11/2019 12:53

Very had loads of HP stuff in the Black Friday deals. I got my 7yr old the invisibility cloak thing (£20 off)

JuneFromBethesda · 20/11/2019 12:55

So many excellent ideas here, thanks! I'm taking notes. Love the idea of a sorting hat although she did an online quiz that sorted her into Slytherin (!) and put the rest of the family in Gryffindor (!!) which caused quite a bit of upset, so I'd be a bit worried about similar happening again ...

redbubble
Also
qwertee t shirts sometimes have Hp

Ilovewillow · 20/11/2019 12:57

Have a look at the Hawkins Bazaar website they have loads of HP merchandise. I particularly like the Chocolate Frog cushion!

Snaga · 20/11/2019 13:13

They've started to produce illustrated editions of the books. I've got these for my little HP fan. There's a Dobble game which is quite fun but I wouldn't bother with trivial pursuit game. Most of the questions would challenge an adult fan.

Asda have a good selection of HP stuff too then there's the funko pop characters including a vast array of blind bag keyrings.

We've just been through this because it was DDs birthday recently. Christmas we're stumped at the moment and may need to take a new direction with what to buy!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 20/11/2019 13:27

last year I made dd a case of fantastic beasts like Newt' s in fantastic beasts. she had a notebook, wand pen, the book fantastic beasts, cuddly nifflers (with chocolate coins and fake gems), an occamy egg, an a bendy bowtruckle, hufflepuff scarf, all in a vintage suitcase.

this year I bought lots of bits in Primark (if you can get to Oxford street there's a massive Harry potter section) funko pop figures, origami book, cuddly dobby, bellatrix wand.

for their stocking this year in planning on making a pranks box (weasly themed!) and a sweet box (honeydukes) lots of ideas on Pinterest/Google to do your own 😁

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 20/11/2019 13:30

oh and check out punydukes they have some fantastic Harry potter things on there. my daughter says she's slytherin, I'm hufflepuff and my youngest daughter is ravenclaw 😁

LuckyAmy1986 · 20/11/2019 13:38

I am doing a Harry Potter Themed birthday for DH this year (I don’t have much else going on at the moment) Grin I’ve got him HP blanket (it’s lovely, from Primark) socks, top trumps, Dobble, slytherin cufflinks, Beedke the bard and quidditch books, a most wanted poster featuring Sirius black, and some HP sweets. Yes I gave gone crazy. They also do some little HP string lights in primark.

JuneFromBethesda · 20/11/2019 19:08

Thanks so much everyone, this has given me lots of good ideas. Love the Newt suitcase!

DS7 is getting the Lego HP advent calendar. The Lego HP Great Hall, Hogwarts Express and Whomping Willow.
He’s got new HP PJs and dressing gown (Sainsbury’s), duvet set (Aldi), socks (Asda), notebook (Aldi).
He’s also getting the Golden Snitch toy and some HP top trumps.
His Christmas treat is the studios tour on 20th December. He doesn’t know yet, I’m sending him a Hogwarts letter.
We might get a cuddly Hedwig for his stocking as well.

EmperorBallpitine · 20/11/2019 19:17

Bodens range of HP things are filling a few slots for us, the house socks, and a striped house color T-shirt. There's a new Lego set with the stag Patronus Dd has her eye on.

Walkerbean16 · 20/11/2019 19:18

Bring her to York! We have some fab Harry Potter shops.

inwood · 20/11/2019 19:19
