What are you getting your Harry-Potter-obsessed child(ren) for Christmas?

My 8-year-old daughter is utterly HP obsessed, which makes Christmas pretty easy in a way, but there’s so much Potter merchandise around it’s hard to know where to start.

We’re getting her some HP Lego (her other obsession) - does anyone have any other recommendations? Particularly for a nice set of Hufflepuff robes - or anything crafty ...

Get yourself to Primark!

Last year she wanted a wax sealing stamp, I bought a Hogwarts one from amazon and then found a really nice Harry Potter writing set that came with one too. Which was from Hawkins Bazaar my mum bought her a quill to go with it.

I also got her the flying snitch but it never worked.

From etsy, I ordered a personalised image of her in Gryfindor robes. You can change the hair colour/ style, skin colour and Hogwarts house uniform which was really inexpensive and she loved it. I also got her a hedwig pocketwatch/necklace watch.

Bookwise, the popup book is beautiful and very intricate and if you don't already have the illustrated versions I highly recommend them, they are beautifully done and a real keepsake.

My friends sweet shop (brick and mortar store but also online) does hampers of HP stuff which I was planning to get my teen as well.

I’ve bought DD the Lego HP advent calendar, a ravenclaw notebook and pen and a reading light shaped like the snitch.

I’ve also just received this set of illustrated books which I ordered after I saw them on a thread on here which I’m delighted with for the price

She’s just had her birthday and one of her favourite gifts was a copy of Tom Riddle’s Diary complete with a pen that writes in invisible ink and a UV wand to use to read it

I have brought the pop head HP advent calendar of dd. It was an eye watering £35 but she loves both of those things. I'm determined not to buy tat for the sake of tat presents this year so may stop at that.

I would love Hogwarts lego but £££

Stupiddriver1 · 20/11/2019 19:26

Tickets for the studio tour if she hasn’t been.

autumnboys · 20/11/2019 19:28

The Boden Harry Potter range is lovely!

ShowOfHands · 20/11/2019 19:28

DS is 8 and plays the top trumps games constantly. He also loves his time turner and golden snitch fidget spinner in particular. We've bought him a colour change HP mug which reveals the dark mark, stationery, Lego to add to the growing model in our snug (we have the great hall, Hogwarts Express, whomping willow, Aragog's lair and have bought the clock tower and the patronus sets and am eyeing up the Beauxbatons set). In the past, bedding and iron on transfers have been well received as well as artwork for their rooms.

The illustrated Jim Kay books are beautiful.

FizzyIce · 20/11/2019 19:38

Have you taken her to the studio tour?
We are all fans and have been a few times, she’d love it but you need a bank loan for the shop !

Worlds0kayestmum · 20/11/2019 19:41

I love the adopt an owl idea, I'm going to do that for my DD.
She was in raptures over everything in Primark so definitely a place to go

CrowleysBentley · 20/11/2019 19:42

Superdrug have a couple of Harry Potter craft sets. I have got my friend's DD a Harry Potter crochet set, and a felt character set from there. Both about £5 I think.

Boots have loads of Harry Potter Bath stuff. Zavvi are really good for Harry Potter stuff, they usually have sets of merchandise that work out as really good value.

Nanasueathome · 20/11/2019 19:55

There’s an illustrated A4ish size edition
First 3 books have been available for a while
4th one is newly released
I bought the first 3, 1 a year, for my eldest grandson and have just purchased book 4
All from Amazon

bruffin · 20/11/2019 19:57

I got a signed copy of 4 by the artist in Foyles about a month back.

Trewser · 20/11/2019 19:57

The hedwig hot water bottle in primark is cute.

BearSoFair · 20/11/2019 20:03

There are some good replica wands if she has a favourite character. This year we've got DD a Luna Lovegood one.

SkaterGrrrrl · 20/11/2019 20:09

Gap has Hogwarts tops at the moment, I got DD the Gryffindor one. Like a long sleeved t shirt with a hood. I've got DS the red Boden HP jumper with Harry's glasses on the front.

DD is getting the flying snitch (stressed to hear they don't work well) and DS is getting HP Lego.

They have both put wands and robes on their Xmas lists.

Bickles · 20/11/2019 20:21

Anyone found Harry Potter Christmas wrapping paper easily? I’ve checked Tesco and Primark.

LuckyAmy1986 · 20/11/2019 20:35

@bickles I saw some on Etsy I think

Absolutely agree with tickets for the studio tour, it’s awesome, we’ve been twice. My dds birthday is in December and a couple of years ago we booked it for her birthday and gave her the tickets that morning. She asked ‘are we going today, on my birthday?’ and saying yes to that was fantastic, her face was a picture. About three hours later we were on the outskirts of London and spent the day there. She had a big birthday badge on and got to open the hall doors at the beginning of the tour and all the guides kept wishing her a happy birthday. Was great!
