What would your dream birthday cake look like? Or your child's?

One containing gluten and dairy with fresh cream and I wouldn’t be ill afterwards

littlealexhorne · 17/11/2019 23:16

A bit naff but I've really been craving a slice of this recently, no idea why because it'll have been a total age since I last had some: www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/birthday-and-party-cakes/sainsburys-sweetie-traybake-660g

I'm not crazy about cake but give me a freshly made cheesecake and I'm anyone's.

A Romantica. I saw a thread on this a few months back (about vienetta possibly) and someone mentioned their childhood dream was to buy one and eat it all themselves when they were an adult. That's now also my dream 😂😂 If they still exist somewhere let me know.

Gigi178 · 17/11/2019 23:20

A massive Mr kipping angel slice but in a cake Cake

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/11/2019 23:21

I got a Vienetta last year. I can't remember if it was Aldi or Iceland

Floralmoral · 17/11/2019 23:23

Red velvet. With really really thick Philadelphia cheese frosting. All to myself with no one judging me Grin

Auntyfannybaws · 17/11/2019 23:23

You can only get romantica in Ireland!!

Rosere · 17/11/2019 23:25

@Auntyfannybaws does it still exist??I've not seen it anywhere since about 2001😂

gillyginger · 17/11/2019 23:26

Sponge cake with my mums butter icing, I have tried but never perfected it!

BeThere · 17/11/2019 23:26

Really fresh sponge, fresh cream, jam and strawberries.

Auntyfannybaws · 17/11/2019 23:28

Yip sure does, we get one every time we're in Ireland, delicious.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/11/2019 23:37

Black Forest Gateaux from Cavios in Edinburgh (which probably doesn't exist now)

fartingrainbows · 17/11/2019 23:43

I'd just like somebody to bake me a birthday cake. It could be lopsided, burnt, I wouldn't care I'd just love somebody to care enough to bake one.
I'm the baker in the family so I make everybody else's then it comes to my birthday and ..............

Mine would be exactly like an old-school wedding cake - a very dark, rich fruit cake with lots of marzipan and thick, rock-hard icing decorated with twiddly bits in more rock-hard icing. I think it's a tragedy that traditional wedding cakes are going out of fashion, as they are the best possible cakes.

Awwww. But maybe it's not that no one cares; maybe it's because no one would dare? I wouldn't like to bake a cake for an expert baker - I'd be worried that mine wouldn't be up to standard. No one knows that you don't care if the dream cake is lopsided.

ComtesseDeSpair · 18/11/2019 00:02

I made this for DP’s surprise birthday party. He loved it and everyone found it funny. It was just about the hardest thing I’ve ever made and the kitchen looked like an explosion in an icing sugar factory by the time I’d finished Smile

A chocolate nut rum wafer cake a bit like an alcoholic version of

Egghead68 · 18/11/2019 00:45

Or a Baskin-Robbins ice-cream cake.

ParkheadParadise · 18/11/2019 00:57

Mine would be
A massive chocolate fudge cake.

My mum and dd1 made me a cake for my 18th birthday ( my mum was not a baker). It was lopsided and burnt the icing was running down the side and they had tossed a packet of sprinkles over the top.
I can still remember the musical candle placed on top.

GrumpyHoonMain · 18/11/2019 01:02

A giant Lola’s Cupcake

PlasticPatty · 18/11/2019 01:03

I had it. People were surprised. But we really enjoyed it.

Take two (or more) packets of Mr Kipling Frosty Fancies. Set them out in a square. Put a birthday ribbon around them. Sprinkle with edible icing. Add candles. Fabulous.

A company well known for tea rooms makes their own version of this, but theirs costs around £25 more than mine. I invented mine after having had theirs last year. I planned it a long time, and loved it. I was so pleased that everyone else seemed to appreciate it, too.

AlunWynsKnee · 18/11/2019 01:07

Wheels of cheese in layers. I don't like cake but I do like cheese.

Kinsters · 18/11/2019 02:33

Colin the caterpillar. M&S don't sell him where I live and every birthday I wish they did.
