Anyone else got that horrible virus doing the rounds?

My family have been decimated by it.

DC1 got it almost 2 weeks ago (had a whole 5 days off school as he was so ill, very unlike him!). DC2 was hit a few days later. DP and I came down with it five days ago. Baby has managed to escape. Even MIL [who had the kids a few days a week] has taken a hit.

I've had proper flu and this isn't quite a bad but God we have been hit hard.

Anyone else afflicted?

Yes! Came down with it last weekend and still have a hacking cough and feel awful.

Kaykay06 · 16/11/2019 16:53

Me, started last weekend ds3 gave me it, felt like rubbish all week still a bit wiped out tbh. Been off work as I felt so dreadful. Hope no one else in house gets it as youngest is asthmatic and it would really knock him sideways. All had flu jags ages ago too

Crunchymum · 16/11/2019 16:58

Feel so bad as it was DC1 birthday in the week and we were just too poorly to do much (thankfully the kids are better and both back at school the whole of last week!)

We have had to cancel a family party tomorrow as I just can't face hosting (it was only a few close family and they wouldn't expect much / would happily pitch in)

Every day I've gone to bed thinking "surely I have to be a bit better tomorrow" and I just haven't felt any better Sad

I too had my flu jab a while back (no one else has though. DC1 had it a few days ago in school)

Me dd and dh had a cold that was pretty miserable for a couple of days but both got over it quite quickly. I’ve been ill a solid week now had to drag myself through work I’ve just been coming home and going to bed and have slept on and off all day. Feel worse than a cold but not as bad as the proper flu I had years ago just feel terrible.

Minai · 16/11/2019 17:52

Yes, I have felt unwell for 2 weeks now and no signs of it going away! Both my boys had it and were so ill it was horrible. Feel like we’ve all been ill for so long

Crunchymum · 16/11/2019 18:03

We had a tummy bug other side of half term which had my reception aged DC off for 5 days.... then the baby got it and took ages to recover (had to go the GP and provide samples etc)

We've been ill on and off mainly "on" since early October!!

We had a rotten run last winter as well. I assumed it was due to DC2 first winter in full time nursery but we've got ill even earlier this winter and it's taken us adults out as well (last winter was just the kids!!)

It’s horrid
I’m coughing so much I’m throwing up.

I’m finding the post Nasal Drip the hardest to deal with. Every few seconds of spitting out. That’s also making me throw up

I’ve had it since Tuesday & I’m hoping I’ll start feeling better soon

avocadoze · 16/11/2019 18:11

Three weeks and the cough has nearly gone. Three flipping weeks Shock

Chesntoots · 16/11/2019 18:16

I had it about 4 weeks ago. It lasted about 10 days but I still have an annoying phlegmy cough that's not really a cough it just happens when I need to "clear" my chest (sorry, gross).

stairway · 16/11/2019 18:47

I’ve had a cold that turned into a chest cold been 3 weeks and I’m still full of mucus. My poor pelvic floor :(

francienolan · 16/11/2019 19:09

I had a minor cough the last week of September, a week later it came back with a vengeance and only last week did it really go away. Eventually I got an inhaler and that helped a lot as I think my asthma was making it worse. So it was about 6 weeks of on and off.

Sadandwontvoteagain · 16/11/2019 19:18

Ahh man - I’m in a world of pain....

I’ve had flu so I know it’s not that but I ache, my sinuses are constantly blocked and when I blew my nose yesterday my ear drum went pop and I was in agony. Now every time I blow my nose my ear whistles.

I’ve now developed a pain on the left hand side of my neck.

I feel terrible and I’ve had it since Tuesday.

Eurgh

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 16/11/2019 19:23

Dd1 has it now, she's getting over shingles, has asthma, alevel mocks and coursework deadlines coming up. I don't know how she's going to cope and she is curled up on couch under a blanket looking like death warmed up.

DrWAnker · 16/11/2019 19:24

Had it 3 weeks ago.
Was very ill for 4 days, no energy. Snot river like I've never experienced, cough, sore throat, ears etc. Vomiting and temperature. Complete loss of appetite for 2 weeks almost.
I've had proper flu twice and whilst it wasn't anywhere near that, it was very unpleasant.
I've only started to feel better this last week.

6demandingchildren · 16/11/2019 19:31

I have it as well, I had to leave work today as I just needed to lie down , I just hope DH and DS5 do not get it as they are off to China on Friday.

caravanette · 16/11/2019 19:40

I've got it it's HELL

riotlady · 16/11/2019 19:41

Yes been a week and I’m just starting to feel better. I had another one a couple of weeks a go so feel like I haven’t been properly well in ages!

AdalindMeisner · 16/11/2019 20:09

I've had a 3 week ear infection and then four days ago as I came to end of my antibiotics (and still with all the ear infection symptoms) this virus hit. I slept for 48 hours waking only for pain killers, I had sweats, shivering, vomiting, no appetite, aching body, stiff neck, head ache.

Today I'm a bit better but still coughing like a twenty a day smoker, now with a retracted ear drum and a painful head and eyes but I'm awake and able to stay awake so step towards shifting it hopefully, I have an assignment due in 3 days and not even close to finishing it 😭

My youngest has been ill since Friday morning vomiting, temperature, sore throat and ear ache and snotty nose. She is due her flu vaccine on Monday, don't think that will be happening at this rate. Eldest has started with it today, earache, headache, aching body - intermittent sobbing and sleeping Sad

Stroller15 · 16/11/2019 20:16

I think I'm day 2. Feel absolutely terrible. Not flu obviously, as I can still Mumsnet! Just a shame my 1 and 3 year old don't understand I don't particularly fancy playing hide and seek or wrestling right now. And my DH gets weirdly competitive about who's the most poorly whenever I get sick, so I'm feeling very sorry for myself.
Hope everyone feels better soon!

Giggorata · 16/11/2019 20:34

I'm in week 3. 😕 still can't go longer than 5 mins without coughing up ghastly stuff, gasping for breath... not flu, but I haven't felt this ill for ages. I'm now just hoping I am better for Christmas. 🤞

Heymummee · 16/11/2019 20:35

We’ve all had it other than DS2. Lots if people I work with are suffering too.

Flurgle · 16/11/2019 20:48

Two weeks in. Was a proper runny cold to begin with but now horrible chesty cough and sinus. So so much gunk yuk.
Third person in the family to get it- I have asthma so it’s not helping that. Been in bed except for when I’ve dragged myself to work doped up to the eyeballs. Really fed up.

Pierrettelasanguinaire · 16/11/2019 21:01

I have had a headache for 16 days straight. The constant cough has gone - just the one or two protracted and completely disabling coughing fits per day. My lips have totally delaminated. My guts are misbehaving. My neck aches, my back aches, I have spells when my temperature jumps around all over the place (some might be stray hot flushes, maybe) and frankly cutting my throat rather than doing the washing up seems an attractive option.

Other than that, pshaw - just a little cold Grin

WineOrGinOrBoth · 17/11/2019 05:42

My neck is killing me even more today.
I always know it’s bad when I don’t want food Sad. All I can tolerate is strepsils & hot water with honey & lemon.

Flowers to everyone suffering

foxatthewindow · 17/11/2019 05:55

I have something. Not quite sure what it is. Lots of snot and general malaise, but not quite flu. DS1 (5) also has it and woke at 2 feeling sicky (was not sick) and looking very grey. I’ve been awake since!
