my 11 year old has shown an interest, i do think he would follow, and enjoy it, trouble is its a 15, and whilst i allow some 12s, i have a general ban on 15s. Has anyone on here let a pre teen watch Stranger Things? all responses appreciated 😊

My daughter watched it when she was about 13.

30to50FeralHogs · 03/11/2019 23:36

DD is 12 - nearly 13 - with two older brothers, so she has always been exposed to things a bit beyond her years unfortunately! She loved Stranger Things and wasn't scared at all by it.

If your 11 year old is generally robust I don't think there's anything that bad in it tbh. Some of it is a bit creepy and could cause nightmares, but these days its not really anything they won't see elsewhere.

Have you watched it yourself? You're probably the best judge of whether he will cope with it or not.

I've let my 11 year old son watch it, but only with me, there are a couple of things that may need discussion before/after viewing, but nothing too graphic, and the language is a little salty but if you've seen it already and we happy to supervise, I think it's up to you. You know what your child is ready for, and the guide is only a guide. Your opinion on the content is the most important.

My daughter was 11, a few months short of 12 when she watched it. She watched all 3 series on the bounce. My elder daughter was 13.

staydazzling · 04/11/2019 10:13

My 15 year old won't go near it.
My 10 year old twins watched it and loved it.
I know it's a cop out, but it all depends on the child!

(We had actually watched all 3 series prior to sitting down and watching it again with the twins so we didn't just let them loose on it!)

TheReluctantCountess · 04/11/2019 11:16

My son started watching it at about twelve and a half.

Venger · 04/11/2019 11:32

My 10yo has recently watched season one, lots of the kids in his class had watched it and he wanted to see it too. DH had already seen it so I binge watched it over a few days and we decided that yeah, he could watch it. He enjoyed it, a few little bits where he jumped but no nightmares and didn't ask for it to be turned off.

bialystockandbloom · 04/11/2019 11:46

My 12yo and 9yo have watched all three series. I don't think it's that scary. The third series is more gory/violent than the first two, and my 9yo dd couldn't watch the violent bits, but the supernatural bits were fine (they both watched doctor who from young and I think it's comparable). But some of the language prob isn't really suitable, and I don't let my dd watch Friends etc so I freely admit I have no clear principles and am willing to be judged Grin

Depends on what you think suitable for your dc.

theneverendinglaundry · 04/11/2019 12:05

My nearly 10 year old has watched s1 and s2, but I won't let her watch s3 yet as it's much darker imo.

KatyCarrCan · 04/11/2019 12:11

My 10-yr-old wants to watch it but I haven't let him. He's seen a couple of scenes over my shoulder (scenes of the DCs having fun no gore or supernatural bits). Children at school talk about it all the time so he probably knows the entire story line but I don't think he's ready to watch it. Unlike a PP, I have let him watch some episodes of Friends but I choose which ones I think are suitable.

queenofarles · 04/11/2019 12:13

Ds started watching it when he was 11.
He is 13 now, all of his friends watch it too.

queenofarles · 04/11/2019 12:16

IMO the first two seasons are very mild and enjoyable even for pre teens . But the third one, Is just horrible , felt sick watching it. The rats scenes made me almost 🤢

IdClimbHimLikeATree · 04/11/2019 12:20

DD was 11 but watched it with me. DS was 12 and watched it with DH. It is scary but tbh the more upsetting or shocking thing for me is how desensitised they are to that kind of thing. All their friends watch it and talk about it, it was a big theme for Halloween parties this year.

sugarbum · 04/11/2019 12:21

My 12 year old has watched it. My 9 year old hasn't its too 'dark' for him.

hazeyjane · 04/11/2019 12:29

I think series 3 is the worst, for the Billy element....really properly unsettling.

We're watching it with dds- 12 and 13 - having watched it ourselves already. We have jumped over a couple of bits (dd1 gets very antsy!) but they are loving it.

StormyLovesOdd · 04/11/2019 12:43

My nearly 12 year old DD watched it with me, I wouldn't let her watch it alone. DD is now completely obsessed with it and so are all her friends. I winched a bit in places at some of the language but its really not that scary.

Flicketyflack · 04/11/2019 12:46

11 & 14

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 04/11/2019 12:48

DC1 just watched recently aged 12. Loved it, and I can't recall her being creeped out. She did watch with her father, not for supervision but because he wanted to watch as well (not my cup of tea).

Drogosnextwife · 04/11/2019 12:53

My ds was 11 and wanted to watch it because his friends were watching it, so I said we would watch it together. Think he is a bit scared of it though. He would never admit that but he hasn't really bothered about it much recently.

DecomposingDurannie · 04/11/2019 13:00

My DS14 devoured it, one DT12 was desperate to watch it and as I had already done so i knew she'd be fine so she did and loved it... her twin is not interested and would definitely find it scary so it really does depend on the individual....

staydazzling · 04/11/2019 13:46

yeah i agree that Season 3 is darker.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 04/11/2019 13:58

DD1 at 14/15 (roughly when it came out), she would have been fine much younger. DD2 is 14 and couldn't watch it at all. DS is 10 and thankfully not interested yet!

I think a lot depends on your child. If Season 1 is ok then carry on, if not then stop there for a bit.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 04/11/2019 16:06

15 and 13 That was Season 1 .
