my 11 year old has shown an interest, i do think he would follow, and enjoy it, trouble is its a 15, and whilst i allow some 12s, i have a general ban on 15s. Has anyone on here let a pre teen watch Stranger Things? all responses appreciated 😊

Another who agrees Season 3 was quite a lot darker than the previous seasons .

The youngest was 10 when ours first started watching the first series started and all have loved it

Helmetbymidnight · 04/11/2019 16:12

9/10. i thinks its amazing - brilliant telly. we watched it all together and, embarrassingly, it was the highlight of my week.

you'll know if your kids will enjoy it or not. ie do they have bad dreams etc? (then, no)

When my DC were younger and I had a dilemma like this I found if they watched the scary bits with lights on/curtains open/ in daylight it made it less scary-not sure if you want to give that a try.

I also agree Season 3 upped the creepy factor but I also think Season One had the unexpected surprise element. Think Season 2 the weakest.

I just started watching it with ds who just turned 13.. I’m quite chilled about certificates (I decide on a case by case basis) but it’s maybe one to watch together, just because there are some slightly adult themes.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/11/2019 16:17

i wish i could watch it all again for the first time - i really enjoyed it!

Blahblahblahnanana · 04/11/2019 16:19

My 9 year old is ok with it, but was scared through gremlins when we watched it the other day! 🤔

staydazzling · 04/11/2019 17:32

thanks, all of you i think i will allow him to watch season 1.

im sort of case by case i have a general blanket ban on 15s, i allow some 12s i. e marvel, some teen films, there are some flat out no's i. e more vulgar 12s like austin powers would be a total no, DS is 11, dumb and dumber is a no, i remember some rude humour there etc.

Watched with DDs aged 9 and 13. They loved it and weren’t at all scared. I actually think the 15 rating is a bit over the top.

staydazzling · 04/11/2019 17:57

i think its a bit OTT aswell, i was surprised it wasn't a 12.

OP I'm with you on the vulgar thing, I think that's worse than scary stuff (as long as the children in question are ok with scary stuff). But crass and gratuitous swearing and coarse sex references are a different thing. I'm no Mary whitehouse Grin but innuendo about eg blowjobs etc really not suitable for tweens imo!

I‘m super squeamish and made it through all 3 series of Stranger Things. For perspective, I can’t watch GoT but am fine with Dr Who, Star Trek Discovery, and would have been the same at 11-12.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 04/11/2019 23:02
  1. We watched them all together, and he's since watched them all again.
Croquembou · 04/11/2019 23:04

God damn all your brave under 12s.

Signed, a coward.

Missanneshirley · 04/11/2019 23:08

Dd almost 12 has just finished all 3 seasons and loved it, it seems to be the in thing with her age group. I had already watched it and warned her re series 3 but she wasn't fussed (altho i did specify it couldn't be watched before bedtime!)
She loves the soundtrack and it's led to her listening to a wider variety of stuff so I'm happy with that!
