How are you pronouncing Genghis?? Or how should I be pronouncing it??
(I always said bi-opic. Bio - pic made quite a lot of sense when I heard it finally said out loud.)

7salmonswimming · 31/10/2019 18:41
Grin

Geng-hiss

What have you been saying???

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/10/2019 18:42

Gen-giss
I think anyway.

GoFiguire · 31/10/2019 18:43

Jen-jis

Ohyesiam · 31/10/2019 18:43

Gen-gis, is there another way?

CoolCarrie · 31/10/2019 18:45

Gen hen gus is how I have heard it pronounced on a couple of tv history programmes.

Candle1000 · 31/10/2019 18:47

Gen ( to rhyme with hen) giss ( to rhyme with kiss)

Obviouspretzel · 31/10/2019 18:54

Gen hen gus? What the fuck?

PuppyMonkey · 31/10/2019 18:57

Gen-giss.

With the ‘Gen’ bit pronounced like you’re going to say guest or gear, not like you’re going to say general or Gerald.

That was hard to explain.Grin

Doobigetta · 31/10/2019 18:58

Hard gs. So Gen sounds like get, and “ghis” has the same consonant sound but ends like “kiss”. Is that wrong?

VanyaHargreeves · 31/10/2019 19:03

I would presume Gen-giss

And Bio-pic Is a big hello in order OP? WinkGrin

imnottoofussed · 31/10/2019 19:12

Watching the same tv programme. I thought it was gengiss not jengis.

Also am I saying biopic wrongly as bi-opic?

CoolCarrie · 31/10/2019 19:16

Well the guy who was showing Joanne Lumley the massive statue of Khan said it Gen hen gus, and he was a local so should know!

Lessstressedhemum · 31/10/2019 19:18

Chingus Han. No k sound in mongolian.

damnilovejam · 31/10/2019 19:21

Gen-hen-gus and chingus... This thread is Grin

Also.... someone please enlighten us about bi-opic?!

picklemebrains · 31/10/2019 19:25

I'm shocked about Biopic!
I'm confused about Genghis. Ive been saying Geng gis. I may be too old to change.

dementedma · 31/10/2019 19:28

I know a Genghis and he pronounces it Gen ( hard G) Giss ( hard G)

JumpyLiz · 31/10/2019 19:30

Next they'll be telling us it's Dip Loddick Uss

BritishHorrorStory · 31/10/2019 19:31

Isn't this how most pronounce it? It's how i pronounce it:

Temeraire · 31/10/2019 19:32

Biopic is short for biographical picture and normally pronounced with an Oh (like Oh My God) sound in the middle. Bio-Pic.

Some weirdos pronounce it to rhyme with myopic (shortsighted) but they are wronger than a very wrong thing.

SinglePringle · 31/10/2019 19:32

No idea about Genghiss (have always pronounced is Geng-hiss. Am I wrong?) but I work in film and documentaries and we say Bi-opic but it very much runs together: by-opic

Temeraire · 31/10/2019 19:33

Oh and HTJI

FoldenHoard · 31/10/2019 19:37

Woah, I'm a weirdo who never knew it was pronounced bio-pic Shock

Genghis is Gen-giss to me 😬

ChaosTrulyReigns · 31/10/2019 19:43

@imnottoofussed yes! That's where I saw it!.

JENGIS. I have no friffing idea 😭

But did immediately think Oh ThatBastardGengis

But then realised it was actually Gandhi that was That Bastard and Genghis wasn't That Bastard.

And now I'm lying down in a dark room 😂

ChaosTrulyReigns · 31/10/2019 19:44
