Second hand children’s Christmas jumpers

I’m thinking ahead of what I need when and have remembered that the children at our school are asked to wear Christmas jumpers one day in December. I’m fairly anti clothes that only get worn once or for a short period and wondered if there’s anywhere obvious that I could buy children’s Christmas jumpers?

I’ve had a look at the Oxfam online shop but there isn’t much there. All the charity shops near me have stopped accepting children’s clothes so I don’t think they sell them either.

Maybe try eBay? I’m surprised charity shops have stopped taking kids clothes. I wonder why.

EBay?! Facebook marketplace selling groups. They are the the most common places of all to buy any 2nd hand item.

TheBrockmans · 30/10/2019 20:08

Can you suggest that the PTA facilitates a second hand jumper sale. I just bought really big a few years ago and same one is bought out each year!

We have a local fb free share site, maybe you have a local one too or could start one - perfect place for sorting out Christmas jumpers.

RandomMess · 30/10/2019 20:09

Why don't you organise a Christmas jumper bring and buy sake at the school??

Bit of a fundraiser?

ohmysoul · 30/10/2019 20:09

Definitely look on eBay. There are loads at the moment.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 30/10/2019 20:09

What sizes are you looking for? I've got a few as we get them every year. Blush

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/10/2019 20:14

Failing that create a Christmas jumper by adding baubles etc to a plain one.

Whathappenedtothelego · 30/10/2019 20:26

PTA second hand Christmas jumper stall is a great idea - might suggest that for our school Christmas Fair.

HerkyBaby · 30/10/2019 20:34

Get an old jumper and just go mad with a glue gun and old tinsel , glitter and baubles .

Bunnybigears · 30/10/2019 20:37

Look on facebook at the selling sites if there isnt any ads then post a wanted ad I'm sure loads if people will want to get rid of the ones that dont fit.

MsAnnThropic · 30/10/2019 20:46

What size do you need? We always get off local selling sites then sell on. I'd happily send you one if we have the right size?

coragreta · 30/10/2019 20:51

I sell last years xmas jumper on facebook and sometimes by this years one there too.

Chugchugtraintrain · 30/10/2019 20:59

I usually get them from eBay.

megletthesecond · 30/10/2019 21:02

If the school want the pupils to wear Xmas jumpers then they should organise a second hand sale or swap.

Our charity shops are really good and put the racks of Xmas tops out in November. I don't buy new ones.

purplecorkheart · 30/10/2019 21:03

If you have a local facebook group ask can you borrow one for the day.

MrsPear · 30/10/2019 21:05

Why on earth are you buying one for one day? We buy them but my boys wear and wear there jumpers. Buy a winter theme one instead or one of those Scandinavia style or Scottish ones instead. You can get lovely woolly ones as well as cotton. Alternatively pin some tinsel and or foil stars on a plain one.

MrsPear · 30/10/2019 21:06

Btw our last school didn’t do Christmas jumper - not inclusive in a school with a large section that are of the Muslim faith hence the rename to winter theme jumper day.

Newmumma83 · 30/10/2019 21:08

Facebook for sale site has a fair few

Foodtheif · 30/10/2019 21:10

Our school do this too. They ask for a pound from each child in order to wear an xmas jumper and then give it to a local
Children’s charity. It is a bit of a pain buying two jumpers every couple of years. (I buy a bit big so they last two years) but my two really love wearing an xmas jumper. I think they will both need a new one again this year but I will also be looking for second hand ones. Much cheaper! My eldest is in year 6 so may be the last year she needs one. I doubt secondary school do an xmas jumper day?

MillicentMartha · 30/10/2019 21:13

They do them at our secondary!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/10/2019 21:28

One year I sewed tinsel around an existing jumper of DD's.

Now, I start looking on eBay early. Both DD and DS have secondhand eBay Christmas jumpers just for school, although we've had some nice ones that have made an appearance in the Christmas Day family photo Grin

user1573334 · 30/10/2019 21:32

I've been round charity shops this week, most have their Halloween rails out this week and will be replaced by Christmas ones next week. The ones that has Christmas stuff in already had plenty of jumpers. Try again next week. Or try eBay. Or try any of the masses and masses of children's clothes second hand groups on Facebook.

ExitLightEnterNight · 30/10/2019 21:36

Any older siblings, cousins or friends that can hand them down? That's what we do. We also wear them several times throughout the winter rather than just on the 1 day, which seems like madness to me! My ds has grown out of his (he was given it the year before too so it was getting too small last year) so we'll give that to dd and I'm going to knit one for him this year!

SoyDora · 30/10/2019 21:39

Facebook selling pages are usually the place to look for this sort of thing.
