DS 11 can’t weight near after fall - A&E or wait and see?

Morning, today’s dilemma - DS 11 fell off the back step yesterday evening. Was in a lot of pain (he’s quite stoical usually), had some swelling on the side of his foot and small gashes on the top of his foot and little toe. The swelling wasn’t very much last night and isn’t any worse this morning. But he can’t put any weight on his foot.

So, A&E or wait and see?

Hang on, will take a pic...

Minor injuries unit, if you have one near you.

NotQuiteUsual · 30/10/2019 09:28

If it was last night and he can't weight bare now I'd be taking him in. Do you have an urgent care clinic that does X-ray locally? That's another option.

Kaykay06 · 30/10/2019 09:28

Take him to minor injuries or a&e

Karwomannghia · 30/10/2019 09:29

I would. Best to be safe.

His left foot is in shadow, that’s not bruising.

a&e or minor injuries if they can x-ray and deal with children
a break needs to be ruled out.
this time of day should be reasonably quiet.

it was an accident so a&e totally appropriate.

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 30/10/2019 09:31

I would take him to minor injuries or a & e, our nearest minor injuries is in a & e! Best to have it checked over. Hope hes ok Flowers

HeadBrickWall · 30/10/2019 09:32

Definitely get it checked.

Quartz2208 · 30/10/2019 09:33

Wait and see what? It’s an accident so a&e/minor injuries is appropriate just be warned both times DS has broken things it’s been a long day!

Standstilling · 30/10/2019 09:35

Thanks folks. I’ll pack a bag...

Pop to minor injuries if you've got one, or A&E if not. Breaks need to be ruled out.

horrayforharoldlloyd · 30/10/2019 11:14

That looks like he has broken his 5th metatarsel. Deffo x-ray job

Standstilling · 30/10/2019 11:17

We’re at children’s A&E waiting for X-ray. Thanks again all Flowers

It’s fractured! DS is in a cast up to his knee. He’s enjoying his crutches Grin

Standstilling · 30/10/2019 16:12

Ouch! Hope he heals quickly and well.

simonisnotme · 30/10/2019 16:58

poor lad
you may have to have a meeting with school with regards to h&s /care plan whilst on crutches

Standstilling · 31/10/2019 07:53

He was a bit wobbly yesterday - emotionally and on his crutches - but we had lots of cuddles and a film and by bedtime he was happier again. Off to the Fracture Clinic this morning for his permanent cast.

@simonisnotme Thanks for the reminder - I’ve contacted school.

Hope it went well this morning.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 31/10/2019 19:33

Yes, do find out about school. My granddaughter wasn’t allowed in school with a broken leg, unless someone was with her. She was in Reception though at the time.

redchocolatebutton · 31/10/2019 19:35

dc in year 3 was allowed in school, was even playing football on crutches!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 31/10/2019 19:39

You can hire a wheelchair from your local Red Cross centre for up to 3 weeks. You just put an anonymous donation in to an envelope when you return the equipment if DS finds the crutches tiring.
