Do you take your engagement/wedding ring off to wash?

Do you leave them on constantly, or take them off to shower/wash hands?

I take both mine off as soon as I get home, only put back on when I get dressed and go out. I find it uncomfortable to wear rings around the house and when sleeping etc.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 29/10/2019 19:56

Nope, they stay on all the time. I'd be afraid of losing them if I took them off.

DramaAlpaca · 29/10/2019 19:56

I never take my wedding ring off. I take my engagement ring off when I get home.

Orchidflower1 · 29/10/2019 20:20

Only take watch off- all other jewellery stays on 24/7.

Wedding ring has not come off since she put it on and I hope it never has to.

WingDefence · 29/10/2019 20:24

I only take mine off to put hand cream on, otherwise they stay on all the time. Why are you asking @Nobhobs?

SallyWD · 29/10/2019 20:25

Never take mine off for any reason

Mylifeisboring · 29/10/2019 20:26

On all the time

Thehouseintheforest · 29/10/2019 20:31

Took mine off during a big row in Christmas 1998.. taking wedding / engagement rings off is symbolic to me. Never been off since. DH knows it means businesses... next time I do it (if ever) means divorce. He had one chance not to be a dick....

FrankenCat · 29/10/2019 20:40

Only time I take mine off is when I'm making something in the kitchen like pastry.

AthollPlace · 29/10/2019 20:45

Mine is too expensive to risk damaging it with normal household tasks such as washing up or housework and gardening etc. I wear my wedding ring when I go out in public but not at home - it’s a symbol that I’m married so imo it’s not essential if there’s nobody there to see it! I only wear my engagement ring on special occasions like nights out etc. You can always tell the people who wear their rings all the time - the diamonds look like soap and have no sparkle.

dementedma · 29/10/2019 20:52

I have stopped wearing my wedding ring. I wear an eternity ring on my left hand and a Sheila Fleet ring on my right. Both come off when I get home and put on the kitchen shelf until the next day. No idea where my engagement ring is. Married 32 years.

What a load of bollox. I wear mine 24/7 and they're still as sparkly as when they were new.

Expressedways · 29/10/2019 21:29

No that’s because the diamonds are poor quality and/or the rings are dirty and need of cleaning. Nothing to do with the frequency of wear. And besides, who said rings have to be diamonds?!

peachgreen · 29/10/2019 21:54

@AthollPlace Only if they don't bother cleaning it! Mine is cleaned once a week and it's as sparkly as the day I got it.

MrsJonesAndMe · 29/10/2019 22:02

Just for messy baking.

Rubbish! I clean mine regularly even though I wear it all the time and it sparkles as much as when my DH gave it to me 35 years ago! What's the point in having an engagement ring you love if you take it off all the time?

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 29/10/2019 22:04

@DaisyMay25 that’s contact dermatitis, very common with ring wearers!

Roussette · 29/10/2019 22:05

Oh... and a good quality ring won't be damaged by washing up etc. I was told that by Mappin & Webb

Jayneisagirlsname · 29/10/2019 22:11

I take mine off all the time. My Mum is so worried about it as she thinks it's bad luck to off your wedding ring.
I saw it's even worse luck to have an itchy rash under your ring!

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 29/10/2019 22:14

Yeah, washing up isn’t going to damage a diamond and platinum ring, it’s more the worry that it might go down the plug hole for me 😂

Also agree that wearing a diamond a lot doesn’t make it dull! That would be buying a crappy diamond.

escapade1234 · 29/10/2019 22:16

They’re off my fingers more often than on.

escapade1234 · 29/10/2019 22:18

I would NEVER shower with them on and remove them for hand washing or anything manual really. Always remove them when I come home from anywhere and can go days without putting them back on.

MirandaWest · 29/10/2019 22:20

I only take my engagement ring off if I make pastry. Wedding ring is always on.
