Do you take your engagement/wedding ring off to wash?

Do you leave them on constantly, or take them off to shower/wash hands?

I haven't taken mine off in 33 years. (except to clean them). And that's wedding, eternity and engagement rings. Why would I?
It's a recipe for disaster, and they're safer on my hand than round the house somewhere, I'd lose them. .

mindutopia · 29/10/2019 16:26

I only take them off if I’m doing something especially messy - like mixing mince for meatballs or dough for bread with my hands or if I was like repainting a room or something.

firstimemamma · 29/10/2019 17:08

This is off topic slightly, but could someone please explain what exactly an eternity ring is? I don't get it! Surely a wedding ring is a 'forever' symbol.

Not taken mine off once since I got them

LER83 · 29/10/2019 17:30

I only really put mine on when leaving the house. Always take them off or move them when washing/drying hands as otherwise I get a rash. I take my bracelets off in the house as well.

Doobigetta · 29/10/2019 17:45

Engagement ring generally comes off when I start to make dinner or clear up after it, and goes back on when I get ready the next morning. Wedding ring stays on all the time.

CherryPavlova · 29/10/2019 17:47

Very rarely remove mine.

ringletsandtwiglets · 29/10/2019 18:15

I'm newly engaged and getting used to wearing a ring on my left hand. I have two rings on my right hand, which I've never taken off, but I'm much more wary about my engagement ring and have been taking it off to shower.

bluebellation · 29/10/2019 18:17

Wedding ring on all the time, take my engagement ring off for making bread and for gardening.

Roussette · 29/10/2019 18:20

An eternity ring for me, is a chance for a diamond ring that I like on my hand! And DH gave it to me for a big birthday

CathyorClaire · 29/10/2019 18:22

I never put mine on.

areyoubeingserviced · 29/10/2019 18:25

Don’t wear my engagement ring unless I am going out to somewhere nice.
I never take off my wedding band

Linnylinn1 · 29/10/2019 18:28

Neither of mine come off for anything

Roussette · 29/10/2019 18:34

Where do people keep their rings in the house though??

I can't imagine mine lying around somewhere

chesterfuckingdraws · 29/10/2019 18:35

I rarely wear mine. They sit in a drawer and only come out for special occasions/when I remember. Probably been on 5-6 times so far this year.

Dowser · 29/10/2019 18:36

I knew I just wanted one unusual wedding/engagement ring second time around with all the value in one ring as first time around I didn’t wear my engagement ring much as it stuck up ..no good for seeing to babies.

So it’s never come off since my husband put it on my finger about 7 years ago..and it won’t
It’s very individual as we had it made and I’d be gutted to lose it.

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 29/10/2019 18:37

I'd worry about losing them if I kept taking them off, I chose mine knowing I would want to wear it all the time so went for a practical design. I haven't got and don't want an eternity ring.

peachgreen · 29/10/2019 18:38

I take them off to clean them, and I take my engagement ring off if I'm making scones or pastry.

delilahbucket · 29/10/2019 18:38

I take mine off when showering, moisturising, handling raw meat/fish or messy cooking, certain elements of my job I do need it off so it doesn't get damaged. Everything else it stays on.

DaisyMay25 · 29/10/2019 18:43

I had to start taking mine off in the bath, I got a band of dry skin underneath it and it went as soon as I stopped wearing it in the bath. I probably just have sensitive skin there though, I can't imagine that's a common problem!

Accountant222 · 29/10/2019 18:46

Never worn mine, I have beautiful rings but sadly eczema prevents it.

PenguinsOnParade · 29/10/2019 18:54

I take mine off as I end up with horrendous dermatitis under them if I don't. Mine are antique and I actually dented one the other day after accidentally knocking it against the edge of the kitchen sink so I'm being even more careful with taking them off now.

HeadBrickWall · 29/10/2019 19:25

I rarely wear mine. Took them off when I took young DC to park as they were annoying playing in the sand. Got out of the habit of wearing them. Not even sure they still fit?
DH never wears his (not practical with his job).

WallyWallyWally · 29/10/2019 19:49

Haven’t taken them off for more than two minutes in the last 17 years: it’s the only reason that I still have them as I lose everything!

WallyWallyWally · 29/10/2019 19:50

And like ps I went for a band design rather than sticky up stones for then engagement ring, so it doesn’t catch on anything.
