Crumpets.

How do you eat yours? I normally like them well done, with loads of real butter. Today though, I buttered, marmite, mature chedder then back under the grill and they were bloody amazing. I've not had crumpets in years, but I can see a new food habit forming.

Any other tasty toppings I haven't thought of?

It's got to be real butter all melted in. Then a piece of cheese.

OP do you have shares in a crumpet factory?

janj2301 · 20/10/2019 18:18

My husband has his like yours, yuk, I loathe marmite. I have jam or honey

PhantomErik · 20/10/2019 18:19

Well done so they are crispy then vitalite (I'm dairy free) & peanut butter or marmite.

Ds likes cheese & jam!

AdaColeman · 20/10/2019 18:20

Into a small bowl break an egg and beat it.
Take a crumpet and submerge it in the beaten egg.
Leave for a few moments so the crumpet is saturated with the egg.
Fry the crumpet gently on both sides in a pool of sizzling butter.
Eat immediately.

Real butter
+/- marmite
or jam

Cream cheese and lemon curd

Peanut butter

Always super crispy.

DettolObsessed · 20/10/2019 18:25

My absolute fav is marmite and cheese melted under the grill. I will not have it any other way!

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/10/2019 18:28

Seriously strong cheese spread or marmite or both.

Never, ever sweet toppings though.

This is why I have to pay almost £2 for six crumpets in our local M&S, which is franchised, as I can't get them in Carrefour.

Butter and jam for me, very occasionally sliced Cheddar instead.

cliffdiver · 20/10/2019 19:00

Loads of butter, Marmite, poached egg, cheese, under the grill.

Bloody amazing.

Weebitawks · 20/10/2019 19:02

Gu do a salted caramel chocolate spread. Sometimes I have it on crumpets. Sometimes I eat it with my hands while hiding from the children in the kitchen.

takeasadsongandmakeitbetter · 20/10/2019 19:05

I like to cook some crispy bacon lay it on top of a toasted crumpet then grate cheese on top and put it under the grill... you can thank me later IT IS FOOD OF THE GODS

Definitely cures any hangover!!

onlyhereforthefood · 20/10/2019 19:08

Sometimes super crispy crumpets in lieu of bread for beans on toast is just the thing, too. With extra mature cheddar by the bucket.

OverByYer · 20/10/2019 19:08

Aldi do sourdough crumpets.
Have to do 2 rounds in the tower so they’re really crispy on the bottom. Then lots of butter and jam

OverByYer · 20/10/2019 19:09

TigerJoy · 20/10/2019 19:09

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/10/2019 19:10

Butter
Butter and lemon curd
marmite
cheese and Worcestershire sauce
Poached eggs and black pepper (fake eggs Benedict)

BoswellsBollocks · 20/10/2019 19:12

I like them really well done too, with just butter or strong cheddar grated on top.

I remember when I started secondary school cooking lessons we were asked to bring ingredients for our favourite snack. I took in crumpets, butter, cheese and baked beans. Weirdly so did another girl, we became good friends after that 😄

Fuckenstein · 20/10/2019 19:17

Just lashings of real salted butter.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 20/10/2019 19:18

butter is but a dream!!

Charley50 · 20/10/2019 19:20

I love them with lots of Butter, never margarine, and strawberry or raspberry jam.
