Who is walking past my house at 3am?

So having exhausted all of our own theories, I wonder if MN has any good ideas.

About 6 weeks ago I bought a Ring doorbell. I'm expecting a baby in a few weeks and I'm already excited about knowing whether it's worth getting up to answer the door.

The strange bit, though, is that since having the doorbell I've noticed that someone keeps walking past my house at 3:25am. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac so it's not a through road. Theres a green out of the front of my house which separates the path running along the front of me/my neighbours and the roadway. The mystery walker is always wearing a high-vis jacket and only usually walks one way (into the dead end). It is always bang on 3:25am.

I am the last house on my row and I've already spoken to the house in the very end of the cul-de-sac and it's not them.

I wondered about the milkman but I know he comes about 5:15 as he often meets my other half.

It's not every day, but averages 3 times per week. Not always the same day.

The most recent time the camera caught them was 3:15am yesterday morning. They were 10 minutes early and this time walked both ways past my house, with a torch shining on the floor as they walked back. There is approx 20 seconds between them walking past the first and second time.

So, wise MN, any good ideas? Or am I going to have to camp out at my window from 3am tomorrow in the hope of seeing them?!

I belong to a neighbor hood watch scheme and are getting planning permission for a CCTV. Haven't read everything but no one seems to be takingthis seriously - he seems to know that the OP is alone in the house at night. Police have told me that between 1 and 5 are the times for burglars. Some poster thinks it could be the water board because hey often send people out to do checks at odd hours - absolute nonsense - there is no such thing as the water board and han't been for many years since it was privatised. It's what burglars tell elderly people atthe door that they are from the "water board" as they know elderly people still think there is such a body. Why can't your husband stay at home one night and ask him what he's doing or call the police. He's up to no good that's for sure. The hi viz jacket is to make people think he's on legitimate business.

Love the diagram OP - so neat

To those suggesting ringing the police...why exactly is she going to report !?! A pedestrian walking !?! Some people love to waste police time

OP either it’s a ghost, or his parking his car in the car spaces or could be a bin man ?

Do you live near a train station ? I only ask because I do and often the workmen will do engineering works at night and work through to the next morning.

Could be UKpower networks ? They have again been around my home at random hours sorting satellite signals and such

I think people were saying Thames Water or whoever, not ‘the water board’ as such.
And they do send out meter readers very early in the morning, but certainly not 3 times a week.

AppleKatie · 20/10/2019 22:10
Confused

How does he know the OP’s alone?

He just walks down the road. There’s is literally nothing to suggest that the fact the OPs house is there’s isn’t incidental to whatever he’s doing.

Private security?
Ghost?

GrumpySausage · 20/10/2019 22:21

*Just another thought, werewolf?

He walks down the close as a man but exits as a wolf.*

I mean @sashh has cracked it right there. Can't see why we're still discussing it tbh. Grin

BrusselSprouts12345 · 20/10/2019 22:23

Well?????

highheelsandbobblehats · 20/10/2019 22:27

I need to know if it's @Strongecoffeeismydrug's OH. The timings are too accurate. Small world if it is. A PP suggested him giving a wave. I think it needs to be something more flamboyant. Jazz hands maybe?

Sissyjd · 20/10/2019 22:29

Blatantly waiting for next 3am updates ....thinking shiftworker car sharing maybe??

HerRoyalFattyness · 20/10/2019 22:30

Here's hoping for tonight.

Maybe he is a vampire and turns to his bat form to fly over the garages?

moreturkeyforme · 20/10/2019 22:31

OP. When the baby arrives no doubt you will be up at 3.25am so you will be able to check for yourself Grin

Wineiscooling · 20/10/2019 22:33

To think, if you hadn't got a camera, you and all the 100's of people on this thread would be oblivious to "Mr hi-vis jacket" man! I'm intrigued but going with the innocent explanations. I'm sure a burglar wouldn't be staking out a place in hi-vis at exactly the same times every night! Surely he'd of struck by now! He's just someone going to work!

anothernamereally · 20/10/2019 22:37

I'm now imagining a bat in a tiny high viz jacket

PrincessHoneysuckle · 20/10/2019 22:40

Workman ghost?

batvixen123 · 20/10/2019 22:41

He has a puppy that doesn't sleep through the night yet. I remember my pup needed walked at 3 am for sodding ages before he'd sleep through the night in his crate.

I'm wondering if anyone called the police on me!

Emz834 · 20/10/2019 22:44

Perhaps it's a ghost Grin or your pregnancy is giving you hallucinations. On another note - what are you doing up every morning at that time?

Leontine · 20/10/2019 22:51

Perhaps he has a very small dog like a chihuahua and walks it then as part of his pre or post walk routine?

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 20/10/2019 22:55

He probably has a well behaved dog that isn't on a lead that your door bell isn't picking up. Walking it before work maybe.

Or he's taking a short cut/recently moved in with someone on the street that you don't talk to so you have.t seen him

Drug dealers do not wander around 3 times a week at 3 am in high viz. They park outside your house at all hours of the day/night with music blaring. They do not give a shit

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 20/10/2019 23:02

And when did the op say they were alone?

And what do you mean there's no such thing as the water board anymore?

Seven Trent have knocked on my door 4 times in the last 2 years to ask if they can go into my back garden to check the manhole

They were at the bottom of the street the other night at 11 pm poking at a manhole

Packingsoapandwater · 20/10/2019 23:15

We had something like this. It was a woman walking down our access road at 4am.

I wondered for ages what it was about until it all came out that our two of our neighbours had been having an affair. They used to rendezvous in the chap's garage.

Can't imagine it was very glamorous though; his garage was a right mess.

TrainspottingWelsh · 20/10/2019 23:17

I shall be most disappointed if op isn't back with answers tomorrow.

Bluesunglasses · 20/10/2019 23:20

Used to sneak quietly out the back door and walk a loop around the houses with a cigarette when I was younger, so my parents wouldn't know I smoked. Would be stupid hours of the night. If anyone had seen me I'm sure it looked odd! Maybe his wife wants him to quit, or doesn't know, so he sneaks out when she's definitely asleep for a cheeky fag, but he's safety conscious so hi-vis it is Wink He dropped his lighter so went searching for it with the torch.

One possibility, although perhaps not likely especially if he magically disappears at the end of the cul de sac Grin

Marcipex · 20/10/2019 23:23

My dd and sil were burgled the night she was in hospital having the baby.
The insurance company told them burglars watch houses with heavily pregnant women as they know once they go to hospital they’ll both be out all night.
It was a quiet cul de sac too.

Buttybach · 20/10/2019 23:31

God that's a shitty thing to do!
