Chips beans & cheese

What goes on first, beans or cheese?

The peas or the gravy?

I remember years ago when I worked in a chip shop I tried to put gravy in the bottom of the tray before I put the chips in, then more gravy on top, as I hated getting to the bottom of the gravy chip and running out of gravy....but my boss stopped me!!

We're having a chippy tonight and I fancy chips beans & cheese but I'm wondering if beans or cheese on the chips first.....

Ps: we may have been in the pub an hour and had a spritzer or two so excuse any spelling mistakes... Wink

Chips and gravy is lovely. Chip cob not chip butty

weeblefeet · 05/10/2019 18:41

Chip barm. Fighting talk

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 05/10/2019 18:42

Barbara I've never been but it sounds like a good excuse - thank you!!

Weird how different some things are so close. I'm curious and horrified about the idea of battered chips Grin

Depends what you're eating the chips on. If bread, chip butty, if barmcake, chip barm. Mmmmmm chip butty. Warby's white toastie with lurpak.

Gravy doesn’t belong on chips

My maiden aunt! Gravy and chips is delicious 😋

onthebusoctopus · 05/10/2019 18:57

Chips, beans, cheese and chips, peas, gravy surely?

jomaIone · 05/10/2019 19:11

I hate soggy chips so would be beans and cheese on the side of some lovely extra crispy chips here, or gravy to dip them in. Never put anything on my chips except too much salt!

iklboo · 05/10/2019 19:19

Gravy never goes with chips.

HERETIC!! SEIZE THE UNBELIEVER!!!

I take it you're not from the north west of England then Grin?

Paddingtonthebear · 05/10/2019 19:27

No one is having fish are they 😆

MrsAmaretto · 05/10/2019 19:32

Never tried chips and gravy or seen it in the chip shop. I honestly don’t think I could eat it, but then I’m Scottish and can easily eat a battered fried pizza 😂

NerrSnerr · 05/10/2019 19:37

Oh for fucks sake. I really want to lose weight but I think I want cheesy chips, curry and chips and chips and gravy more.

Newschapter · 05/10/2019 20:01

Dd got chips and gravy and DS got curry chip..

Erm. .... can someone who isn't currently wolfing down their chips please confirm what the gravy is like? I don't ever add gravy to meals as I don't like it. I do like a proper sauce (not ketchup) but gravy is too wet. So are you talking Bisto or a thicker gravy type sauce?

Ta

weeblefeet · 05/10/2019 20:17

Thick, dark, chippy gravy, full of salt and vinegar - lush !

Bodicea · 05/10/2019 20:27

Chip shop gravy is so superior to bisto gravy. It’s is thick and gloopy and delish. Especially with vinegar in it.

SamBeckett · 06/10/2019 02:15

Where are you lot going that you can get beans and cheese in a chippy , I am from the northwest and it chips with curry ,gravy or mushy peas . ( always curry for me ) Envy >>> sulks

JustBeingJobless · 06/10/2019 03:29

East Midlands here and chips and cheese is a pretty common menu option. As is chips and gravy (gravy mix). And it’s a chip cob Grin

adaline · 06/10/2019 07:55

Chips, cheese and gravy here.

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/10/2019 08:03

I've never seen cheese or beans as an option in a chip shop (SE, West Midlands or Scotland). I can't think of a worse thing to do with chips if I'm honest, salt and vinegar is all they need.

iklboo · 06/10/2019 09:17

So are you talking Bisto or a thicker gravy type sauce?

My bisto gravy is a thick sauce. Practically its own life form.

DoctorTwo · 06/10/2019 10:21

Anybody who is near Harpenden and doesn't believe in chips and gravy I suggest you go to the chipper on the high street to try theirs. I am drooling just thinking about their gravy. :o

Don't go today though, they're shut on Sunday...

TokenGinger · 06/10/2019 10:33

It's not even midday and I already want chips and gravy on a muffin with lashings of vinegar after reading this thread 😩

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/10/2019 10:34

I've never had chip shop gravy, I always imagine it would be thick and I can't bear thick gravy, too many horrific school dinner memories.

Newschapter · 06/10/2019 10:38

Yes, it is thick but it's also meaty and tangy and delicious!!
