Really useful SMALL kitchen gadgets?

Help me out would you Mumsnet? I'm wanting stocking filler suggestions of little kitchen gadgets. What can't you do without when you're cooking? Looking for ideas for both 'essentials' and quirky novelty things that are fun but will actually get used.

Those of you who use a garlic crusher, do you have to peel the cloves first or does the outer papery stuff just get left inside the crusher?

A tiny whisk for salad dressings

Wooden lemon juicer, useful and not plastic

Sunnysidegold · 05/10/2019 20:22

My favourites are"
Tiny whisk
Silicon spatulas in different sizes
Nesting magnetic measuring spoons. Got those from Lakeland.
I also have the Lakeland strawberry huller which is nifty.

I think I'm going to buy a mini dustpan and brush now Blush

Two things that I like to use:
an egg slicer - You put your hard boiled egg in the indentation and pull over a top which has a number of wires, it slices the egg neatly for sandwiches.
A microwave tray for bacon - bacon cooks quickly and isn't fatty

BertieBotts · 05/10/2019 20:26

I had one of those egg timers that changes colour depending on how cooked the eggs would be and I found it genius and used it a lot.

BertieBotts · 05/10/2019 20:26

I hate garlic crushers, I never use mine.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 05/10/2019 20:28

This trivet is very handy and folds down small. I have the blue one!

My favourite kitchen item is my avocado saver. I bought it in Australia but you can now get them here.

Wheresmycider · 05/10/2019 20:32

Look for Lid Sid.
Little red and white people who hang over the edge of the pot so the lid isnt fully closed.

An egg separator, a tiny bit of plastic that is perfect for separating eggs without risk of breaking yolks

FadedRed · 05/10/2019 20:37

Avocado gadget, halves, destined and slices in a few seconds.

Egg cups? Egg timers that change colour are very handy. Runner bean stringer/slicer?

Choccyp1g · 05/10/2019 20:50

If you or the recipient like runner beans this little fellow is invaluable:www.johnlewis.com/kitchen-craft-kirsk-bean-slicer/p178724?sku=230700506&s_kwcid=2dx92700046357847423&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7OCIkPGF5QIVCbrtCh33VgmXEAQYASABEgITHPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

it slices the bean, and discards the edges all in one move.

WannaBeMeredith · 05/10/2019 20:52

The IKEA milk frother is a big hit here, £3!

Fizzypoo · 05/10/2019 20:54

Like this. Mine is from the aisle of crap in Aldi a few years back but they’re all basically the same thing. You use them over pans when frying/simmering to stop grease/sauce spatters on the worktops/backsplash.
