... where would you want it to be?

I’m talking dream weekend destination. I think mine would be Vegas, although long flight for a few nights.

Mostly, I'd want the "surprise" to be delivered at least a month beforehand.

Surprise me by booking a trip I haven't had to organise by all means but don't deprive me if the looking forward to it part and certainly don't ask me to pack for a trip when I don't know where I'm going/what I'm doing.

I'd like a weekend in real luxury without too much travel more than a long trip to somewhere exotic.

Dream weekend destination from England?

You don't want to suffer from too much jet lag really, just for a weekend, so South Spain, Morocco or Italy for their coastal destinations would be good.

Vegas, you'll be completely disorientated by jet lag and you have to spend loads of "dollar" in the Casinos BC there's not much else to do other than Casinos and bars.
Unless you're really into Casino's and bars.

Barceloooooonaaaaaaaaa Grin

Daffodil2018 · 03/10/2019 21:53

For a long weekend, New York. For an actual 48-hour weekend, Paris - first class on the Eurostar Grin

funmummy48 · 03/10/2019 21:53

Edinburgh. I love it.

Africa2go · 03/10/2019 21:54

A skiing weekend.
Paris (pre-children weekend getaway)
Edinburgh (love it)
New York
San Francisco

But there is zero chance my DH would ever have the organisational skills to book a surprise weekend Hmm

Katjolo · 03/10/2019 21:54

Paris or a luxury country spaSmile

Dumptyhumpty101 · 03/10/2019 21:54

I went to Vegas before and had the best time, but you’re right the jet lag was a bummer.

I’m not sure where else I’d want to go.

New york

Milliways · 03/10/2019 22:10

My old boss told his wife to pack for a weekend, she thought London but was flown to New York, swanky hotel, Broadway show and helicopter ride!
I would like to know what to pack- but my only ever secret surprise weekend was to a friends mobile home in Devon.....

Branleuse · 03/10/2019 22:11

Depends on time of year

PrincessSarene · 03/10/2019 22:13

Cabin in the middle of nowhere with a log fire, hampers of food and chilled champagne. Oh and kids left at home with suitable childcare Grin

LifeOfLimes · 03/10/2019 22:22

Hotel on the sea front in Llandudno, in winter...and I'm not even joking 😂
Child free, stocked up with snacks, bubbly and a stack of good books- so I could cosy up and read whilst watching the stormy sea from my window.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 04/10/2019 08:09

Barcelona or Paris

GrumpiestCat · 04/10/2019 08:11

New York or Lake District but not Windermere.

DonPablo · 04/10/2019 08:11

So many to choose from, but the county antrim coast would up there, with a big window looking out to sea.

GrumpiestCat · 04/10/2019 08:13

Unless you're planning on gambling/playing the tables or spending top dollar on shows Vegas is a bit meh for the length of time it takes to get there. I'd not bother even if I was loaded.

OurChristmasMiracle · 04/10/2019 08:13

Loch Lomond (where my parents fell in love)
Or (the inner kid in me) Disneyland

steppemum · 04/10/2019 08:14

Oh, totally agree about the surprise being the booking and wanting to know a month in advance.

Hmm, lots of nice ideas here.

-seaside cottage,, open fire, great walks, take the dog.
-Prague/Vienna/Rome/Venice - haven#t been to any of them and would love to visit.
-anywhere where the point is a specific activity so concert/restaurant/broadway show.

  • London and child free get to do the stuff I never can eg galleries/show

All of above though are dependant on enough cash to eat out for every meal (even if it is baguette and cheese picnic for lunch) and enough cash to do what we want including taxi rides if necessary

BestIsWest · 04/10/2019 08:23

don't deprive me of the looking forward to it part

This.

AnotherEmma · 04/10/2019 08:25

Agree about wanting a bit of advance notice to get excited and plan what to take!

Venice - I've never been
New York - although I'd want to stay longer than just a weekend tbh, because of the length of flight and how amazing it is
A luxury spa weekend in the UK

I'd probably be happy whatever the destination tbh, it's not something my DH would do! I'm the organiser.

BarkandCheese · 04/10/2019 08:30

I’d chose a European city I hadn’t been to, maybe Budapest or Copenhagen or Zurich. I really like Vegas but for the journey to be worth it I’d have to go for at least four days.

DH wouldn’t do a surprise though, he’d worry about getting it wrong so would want my input.

BearSoFair · 04/10/2019 08:34

Rome. We've been saying we'll go back since 2009 but never actually get round to organising it!

skeemee · 04/10/2019 08:35

Seville. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Tapas and Vino Tinto. Heaven! Plus weather is lovely too.

BuildBuildings · 04/10/2019 08:38

Berlin. In a fancy hotel though. Also I agree with pp's I'd want to know a bit in advance to be able to look forward to it.
