Obscure request on a mainly British forum but I'm looking for country music

.......recommendations.

My Dad is a massive country music fan and it's his birthday soon so wanted to get him a pretty decent compilation album he can play in his jeep when he's out and about.
He loves Irish and American country music (Not sure there is any other type to be fair lol)

Would anyone have any recommendations?

He'd like all the ones that tour Ireland currently - Nathan Carter - he has mentioned a few female names which I can't remember. Hoping some random Irish poster might be about to recommend something for him.

TIA.

Not sure about any Irish music but I'm loving Chris Stapleton at the moment

HulksPurplePanties · 03/10/2019 11:59

For American:

Sam Hunt
Dierks Bentley
Thomas Rhett
Florida Georgia Line
Luke Bryan
Miranda Lambert
Ashley McBryde

I like a lot of alt country and can't stop listening to Kacey Musgrove at the moment.

HulksPurplePanties · 03/10/2019 12:03

I like a lot of alt country

Have you listened to Sarah Shook & the Disarmers or Lydia Loveless?

MustardScreams · 03/10/2019 12:11

Deep South are excellent.

MustardScreams · 03/10/2019 12:12

But that is more bluegrass now I think about it.

Stravapalava · 03/10/2019 12:18

Both classics and more mainstream but how about something like The Best Country Album in the World Ever or Now That's What I Call Country?

Garth Brooks Double Live is also very good, my DC love belting out the songs in the car.

ChinookPilotsGoVertical · 03/10/2019 12:34

Steve Earle,
Chris Knight,
Slaid Cleaves,
John Hiatt,
John Prine,
Hayes Carll,
Townes van Zandt

squashyhat · 03/10/2019 12:35

Jessie Buckley? I saw her at a festival in the summer and she was great.

GothamGirl · 03/10/2019 12:43

Have a look and see if C2C have released any albums as they are a festival so they do a broad spectrum of acts but also try:

Eric Church
Kip Moore
Garth Brooks
Faith Hill
Tim McGraw
Darius Rucker
Reba
Ashley McBride
Cam
Kenny Chesney
Brooks and Dunn
Dan+Shay
Midland
George Strait
Miranda Lambert
Chris Young

ChicCroissant · 03/10/2019 12:50

Reba McEntire, the Forester Sisters - these both go back a bit but even though I'm not a country fan Reba has a really beautiful voice. The early work of Leanne Rimes and Shania Twain was quite country too.

ChicCroissant · 03/10/2019 12:51

Dolly Parton as well.

NineInchSnails · 03/10/2019 13:04

Colter Wall. Good lord, that boys' voice is unearthly. (Can't call him a man, see what he looks before he opens his mouth, it blows me away!)

Quite "dark" country. But that's just how I like it :)

A track called Kate McCannon gives me goosepimples every time I hear it.

memememe · 03/10/2019 13:47

now thats what i call country is a good album if you want a mix of artist.

or as unmentioned above try brad paisley. hes fab.

Yeahnahyeah1 · 03/10/2019 13:52

Luke Combs, every single time 😍
Chris Stapleton
Thomas Rhett
Florida Georgia Line
Old Dominion
Darius Rucker
Cam
Morgan Wallen
Maren Morris
Eli Young Band

Rainonmyguitar · 03/10/2019 14:02

I second Luke Combs, my god he's talented.

For Irish country singers try Derek Ryan, Robert Mizzell, Mike Denver

Doireann1 · 03/10/2019 14:09

I'll google some of these. Luke Combs sounds like one I'll look into. Tbh, I think he has a thing for goodlooking female singers *sigh.

He'd have access to all the usual Irish lads really as he listens to Irish country music radio stations..... (Don't ever go on a drive with him).

I suppose I'm looking for something new for him to discover. Will google Luke and some of the others mentioned. Thanks for the suggestions.

I adore Hal Ketchum.
Big fan of Dwight Yoakam.
I just got in, on my walk home I was first listening to Mindy McCready and then Miranda Lambert.
Love Gretchen Wilson too.

Yeahnahyeah1 · 03/10/2019 14:15

Good choice his voice is just amazing.

In terms of women singers, Kelsea Ballerini, Kacey Musgraves, Carly Pearce, Miranda lambert and Carrie Underwood. And cam, saying it again cause she’s amazing 😂

Doireann1 · 03/10/2019 14:20

The one I'm loving at the moment right now is Dixie Chicks travellin soldier, but I'm not sure the rest of their stuff is that good.

Doireann1 · 03/10/2019 14:20

Who's 'cam'?

OP posts:
Doireann1 · 03/10/2019 14:26

Ok, I'm going to narrow this down a bit as I'm going to have to order it today to get to Ireland in time.

He likes good-looking females.
He prefers love songs I think rather than drinking kinda songs.
Someone he might not necessarily know of already.
Can be Irish or American - Irish connection probably preferred (e.g. he thinks we're related to Loretta Lynn).
He'd be more into traditional country than modern country.
He's 68.
He's a farmer.
He drives a lot between farms. Think of an auld fella happily jollying along in his old jeep covered in sheep shite with a dog in the back.
He thinks he's 20.

I love the Irish country music channels!
Derek Ryan.
Cliona Hagan.
Lisa McHugh.
Mike Denver.
Cam (although she’s American).
I love Home Free just now although they’re American as well.
