.......recommendations.

My Dad is a massive country music fan and it's his birthday soon so wanted to get him a pretty decent compilation album he can play in his jeep when he's out and about.
He loves Irish and American country music (Not sure there is any other type to be fair lol)

Would anyone have any recommendations?

He'd like all the ones that tour Ireland currently - Nathan Carter - he has mentioned a few female names which I can't remember. Hoping some random Irish poster might be about to recommend something for him.

TIA.

Ok, Cliona Hagan 1234 ticking boxes. Will have a listen to her other stuff. He likes the jive beat (considers himself quite the mover).

Don't forget Alan Jackson.

We also saw Kelsea Ballerini at the Opry in August she was very good.

Does he have any Townes Van Zandt? He's the best of the best but the music is pretty old now..

Michael English is another one. (A bit smarmy for me though)

I think he'd like Lisa McHugh.

Jack Cade.

Don Williams is very popular amongst the older Irish folks in my family.

Christie Hennessy. He was a Kerryman who wrote beautiful songs, and sang them hauntingly. ‘Remember me’ makes me well up every time I hear it.

JaneJeffer · 03/10/2019 15:14

He'd probably like Barry Kirwan

pallisers · 03/10/2019 15:20

I think he'd like Mindy Smith

Doireann1 · 03/10/2019 15:21

Yup - Lisa McHugh is right up his alley! He likes a sweet voice. That she's 'a fine lookin woman' helps too lol. God he sounds like a dirty old man. Bless him - he just thinks he's still a young fella!

Lisa McHugh - The Best so Far ordered now.
I think he mentioned her before.
I think he'll like it.
Thanks for the help.

Might check out some of your recommendations for myself as I'm a closet country fan myself lol.

They're more folky than country but a band that plays near me a lot are amazing and gaining a lot of national attention (they played Europe this year too) called The Ghost of Paul Revere. They're bloody brilliant, their album 'believe' is so so catchy.

Catherine McGrath? I love her song "Lost in the Middle". It might be a bit on the modern side though.

Personally, I like the story telling songs, like Blake Shelton's "Ol' Red". Some of the earlier Taylor Swift is pretty decent country too - I love "Our Song" & "Tim McGraw" from her first album.
