what's worth buying in Home Bargains?

Large store opened near us a couple of months ago, haven;t been yet. What's worth getting? Neighbour says they do very cheap dishwasher tablets and washing machine pods.

Anything else I should be looking out for?

Gingerbread candles, vitamins, grey school socks, birthday cards.

DeborahAnnabelToo · 02/10/2019 12:07

I love this shop. I get the Garnier moisture bomb sheet masks and E45 lotion at a fraction of rrp. Also sun lotion before we went on hol. Some of the food is good, like the dried pulses and fruit/nuts. Stationary etc. It's an addictive shop!

PerfectPeony2 · 02/10/2019 12:09

I bought a plate rack for the cupboard in there. Game changer. I have a thing for storage solutions. Grin

wineandsunshine · 02/10/2019 17:38

Enjoy the candles SmileSmile

LittleAndOften · 02/10/2019 17:45

These are my usual HB buys:
XXL bottles of elvive shampoo and conditioner
large pots of nivea soft
Simple shower gel and hand soap
Star Drops vinegar spray
Birthday cards
Arts and crafts things for DS
Nakd bars (not called that) same ingredients but vastly cheaper
Nicky loo roll
Cheap boxes of chocs and naice biscuits at Christmas

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/10/2019 17:51

Dolmio is always a pound, as is tilda rice.

Helenluvsrob · 02/10/2019 17:54

Wood for your log burner

Elieza · 02/10/2019 18:29

You did well OP to only spend that much, it’s a tempting shop full of bargains! Grin

IncyWincyGrownUp · 02/10/2019 18:35

I only go in for antihistamines, but at 50p for a month supply it’s worth the trek.

OtraCosaMariposa · 02/10/2019 18:42

I am pleased with my fairy dishwasher tab bargain - they are currently on offer at Asda and Waitrose at £10 for 60, I got 150 for £15. Didn't really look too much at the toiletries, I use solid shampoo and bars of soap so wouldn't be buying bottle anyway. But the toothpaste and ibuprofen was cheap.

Just watch out for pack sizes we noticed a few things last time that were packs of 5 instead of the normal 7/8 so seem cheap but aren't actually as cheaper.

Technically you could do a weekly shop in ours, they do bread, milk cereals, fresh fruit, veg and meats etc. Just a very basic selection.

We've also had kids pj's and some good stationary, they also have a good selection of medicines like cold remedies, stuff for upset tummies and the like.

FantasticPhyllis · 02/10/2019 19:03

Westlab bath salts are always on a deal at my local HB.

The par-baked bread rolls. Branded Cheese and yoghurts are also usually cheaper than supermarkets.

Birthday cards are really cheap (29p!)

And just sweets in general. They sell bags of 'broken' (misshapen) Jelly Belly jellybeans for 99p.

Ahl134 · 02/10/2019 19:07

Our local home bargains currently have a six pack of pink lady apples for 89p!!!!
Stocked up.

Mumshappy · 02/10/2019 19:08

I like their sanitary towels, vitamins, antihistamines and cards. Belvita cereal bars are cheaper. I get the nicki toilet roll decent quality. Toothpaste can be cheaper as can washing tablets and softner. Vimto is usually cheaper too.

SpringFan · 02/10/2019 19:27

I bought some microfibre towelling turbans for wet hair in there. Never thought I would ever go for them but they are very effective. Also bought some cheapo microfibre towels for the gym.
I have got fat balls for the bird feeder but B&M are as good.
Also got a run for the guinea pigs in there, which was the same size and half the price as the one I was looking at in the petshop next door.
Also look at shampoo and toothpaste but agree need to keep an eye on the pack sizes.

makingmiracles · 02/10/2019 19:35

I usually go for...

Millicano coffee £2.50 a tin vs Tesco £5
Tabbacco filters 55p a box vs Tesco £1.01
Naked noodle pots 60p vs £1.20
Bel vita filled bf biscuits £1.49 a box vs £2.69
BAssatts chewy vits £2.99 vs £5
Lynx shower gel £1 foam bust £1.49
Finish dishwasher tabs £7.99 for 100
Rinse aid 79p vs Tesco own £1.20

So much of the branded stuff is so much cheaper!

LoveGrowsWhere · 02/10/2019 19:51

Greenglassteacup · 02/10/2019 20:08

Ooh I love HB’s Smile

The sweets aisle is amazing
Toiletries
Lemon skyr yoghurt, I think the brand is Graham’s?
Kids stationery / craft stuff
Baking equipment / kitchen aisle

They usually have great stocking filler presents at Christmas too

EmpressJewel · 02/10/2019 20:16

I love Home Bargains.

My closet store is miles away, so I can’t get there very often. When I do, I stock up. I like:

Kitchen roll
Children’s toys (for class party’s)
Zflora
Star drops
Bed pads
Sweets for the school fair

LittleAndOften · 02/10/2019 20:27

@EmpressJewel can I ask what kind of bed pads? I want some inco pads as I'm shortly due to give birth, I hadn't thought of looking there.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/10/2019 20:29

Astonish products (cleaning)

MrsJBaptiste · 02/10/2019 20:34

Argan oil hair products - 99p for most of them so loads cheaper than anywhere else.

Biscuits are ridiculously cheap too but I try to avoid that aisle when I go in!

beatriceprior · 02/10/2019 20:41

I get my "day" false lashes from home and bargain.

Along with toiletries and cleaning products.

Stocking fillers are Christmas tree
Decorations are also good.
