what's worth buying in Home Bargains?

Large store opened near us a couple of months ago, haven;t been yet. What's worth getting? Neighbour says they do very cheap dishwasher tablets and washing machine pods.

Anything else I should be looking out for?

The cleaning products are a great price yes. They've had beanie boo phone holders in the car care section for ages for less than £2 so great stocking fillers.
Best thing to do is have a good browse on every aisle.

loutypips · 02/10/2019 07:34

Home bargains is one of those shops where you go in intending to buy washing powder and come out spending £80.

Basically, it's good for toiletries, cleaning products, food etc. I get most of my Xmas presents in there as they have really cheap kids toys.

OtraCosaMariposa · 02/10/2019 07:40

My kids are pretty much past the "toys" stage and I'm trying to avoid too much tat. Will report back later!

Didn't know they did food as well, apart from sweets and snacks.

Whatever you want from there, it will be cheaper than anywhere else. It's not the sort of shop you need preparation for, just have a browse.

Chocolatecake12 · 02/10/2019 07:47

I bought cereal bars/chocolate bars there yesterday for a fraction of the price of other shops.
Toiletries are also cheap.
They’ve got their Christmas stuff in so have a browse there too.

Skybooks · 02/10/2019 07:51

I've just moved to near a home bargains and it's so handy for so many things. Kitchen utensils and bathroom furniture were the things that surprised me the most.

Also some minor ailment medicines are for cheaper

Greenteandchives · 02/10/2019 07:52

12 packs of Heinz Baked Beans.
Gu puddings.

Karwomannghia · 02/10/2019 07:52

Not HB specifically b it another cheap shop similar does amazingly cheap dried fruit and nuts.

LoveGrowsWhere · 02/10/2019 07:54

We like the Naked Noodle oriental cuppa soups. 3 for £1 & great as filling after school snack.

Basil90 · 02/10/2019 07:55

Cleaning products, toiletries and toys!

madeyemoodysmum · 02/10/2019 07:57

Yes echo. Toiletries. Cleaning bits santitary products. I’ve also got the odd household thing and birthday cards are pretty good too.

Pet things are good as well.

I generally don’t bother with the food unless I want boxed sweets at Xmas.

CactusAndCacti · 02/10/2019 08:01

I get the Nicky loo roll from there, but overheard at the till yesterday that it is scented but the comfy one isn't. It is apparently now red instead of blue.

Tissues are good, and party rings are 39p

greenlynx · 02/10/2019 08:02

Yes, they do food. They mostly have the same branded products just cheaper. I buy yogurt, cottage cheese, apples, potatoes, cleaning products, bin bags, tissues, food bags, toiletries, seasonal products. I’ve got nice E45 hand cream the other week. Their own period pads are rubbish. They have coffee and tea, cereals. Prices are cheaper than average but you could find something cheaper elsewhere if on offer.

wineandsunshine · 02/10/2019 08:02

The gingerbread candles...they are AMAZING

needmoresleep1 · 02/10/2019 08:05

Yep the gingerbread candles! Also spiced apple one!!

Whatsitlike · 02/10/2019 08:08

The tins of mackerel, watson brand I think so much better than any other brand, love them! (I lived overseas and they were a lifesaver)

Echo what everyone else says about toiletries/cleaning products, also I used lots of Jungle formula mozzie spray (again being overseas) and it was always the cheapest here saved me a lot of money as I had to bulk buy, along with said mackerel!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/10/2019 08:09

Food,beauty and cleaning products

MissChananderlerbong · 02/10/2019 08:11

Some stuff isnt cheaper so know your prices, especially for cleaning stuff. Some cleaning stuff (zoflora) is cheaper.

But the food is often much cheaper... I get spices, tuna light lunches, sweets, chocolate all far cheaper than elsewhere!

x2boys · 02/10/2019 08:18

Agree with @loutypips it's similar to B&M,s in that I will.go in for a tin of dog food and end up spending £50 in all sorts of things I didn't know I needed Hmm

OtraCosaMariposa · 02/10/2019 08:26

MN crime of the century, but I hate Zoflora...

Me to Otra I bought some because mumsnet convinced me it was the most amazing thing ever ,it smelt like a cheap perfume and I can't see what all the fuss is about .

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 02/10/2019 08:46

ours has food in, and the Philadelphia is cheap...so I always buy that for cheesecakes!

but mostly odd tools, paintbrushes cleaning stuff and the odd gift.
Their kitchen range can be great, I recently got some screw top mason jars for pennies. They often have nice china and glasses too, but that's more of your see it buy it....not always in stock

Also the klick lid tubs for leftovers....the plastic ones are decent, but they sometimes have the ones that are glass bottoms with the klick type lids ....I am trying to replace some of the plastic kitchen shitey tupperware with those.

OtraCosaMariposa · 02/10/2019 10:39

Survived my first trip! Massive store and a fair amount of glittery Christmas tat.

However. Still managed to spend £25 although to be fair, £15 if that was on 150 fairy dishwasher tablets. Also got kitchen roll, two of the little gingerbread candles recommended up thread, chocolate biscuits, ibuprofen, toothpaste and bleach!

Fry's chocolate.

Solongtoshort · 02/10/2019 12:02

I have been into my local one today, seen fry’s raspberry creams that where talked about on here the other day. I sent £60 but mainly because l bought 2 fragrances. I can’t believe no one has talked about how cheap the named perfume is, l got ck one and ck encounter. I will go back next week to get lady million and maybe an olyimpia which is about 40 for £50 mil which is an amazing price.
