What monsters lived in your house when you were young?

I had some kind of monsters under my bed. Not sure what type as I always protected myself fully at night: Under sheets, nothing exposed.

There was also a spider monster who lived down the toilet and round a few bends. The flush was his signal there was a possible victim in the bathroom so I had to flush and get out by the time the flushing had stopped. Oh, did I mention he rode a motorbike?

My sister believed that a vampire lived in my grandmas toilet. It's the only time I've seen her run!

The bowler hatted men from the Bradford and Bingley advert. They came round every night with a clipboard to check if I was asleep.

Windydaysuponus · 30/09/2019 19:48

My dm....

GaraMedouar · 30/09/2019 19:49

There were monsters that came out of the big mirror in my DB's room. In my dreams they would chase me down the stairs and i would run in screaming to the lounge to my parents but they couldn't hear me, and just ignored me. Also monsters in my bedroom (clothes hanging on the wardrobe door!)

Fizzypoo · 30/09/2019 19:49

A ghost in the airing cupboard and spiders that would come out of the cracks in the walls. Neither were real but I 'saw' them.

Toddler DD invites her "little monster" into the house, through the front door. She's blue with pink hair (little monster, not DD!)
Occasionally I hear that Little Monster is sad and needs a cuddle, or is happy.
No idea what she does for the rest of the time.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/09/2019 19:53

She’s blue with pink hair. Little monster not DD.Grin

elephantoverthehill · 30/09/2019 19:54

I didn't have a monster but there was a time bomb in our house, it started ticking at night, it was the electricity meter. I also used to think that the flush was a 'Call for the giants'.

OneHanded · 30/09/2019 19:54

My mother...

tryingforminime · 30/09/2019 19:55

My sister 😂😂

Thankyouplease · 30/09/2019 19:55

My mother. They seem to be the most common type of monster

marvellousnightforamooncup · 30/09/2019 20:09

The hands coming up the side of the bed. I had to protect myself with the covers. Tigers at the bottom of the bed if my feet were exposed. There was unspecified terror or bad luck if I trod on the middle stair.

Funnily enough, ds told me yesterday that there are two forbidden stairs in our house.

zsazsajuju · 30/09/2019 20:10

My parents

Mac47 · 30/09/2019 20:11

Not in the house, but there was a giant who walked along the street when I got into bed. I was much older than i should have been before i figured out it was the blood pounding in my ears when i lay down.

Stravapalava · 30/09/2019 20:42

The grobbit that lived in the fireplace in my parents' room! We weren't really frightened of this one, my DBro and I made him up. I imagined him to be a bit like a cross between Yoda and Dobby the House Elf.

Really - whatever was on the stairs leading up to my old room. I never saw anything but I just got this feeling of dread and fear and being watched. Was horrible and I used to race up the stairs, heart pounding and slam the door shut so whatever it was couldn't get me. Was terrifying.

StayInYourLaneBoy · 30/09/2019 20:45

DM used to tell us that goblins lived under the floorboards and if we ran about or made a noise they would wake up and get us... if she didn't want noise she shouldn't have had five kids

custardbear · 30/09/2019 20:50

'The blob' lived under my bed, for years I slept with the blanket around my head, hands and feet tucked in!

A green man also lived on my stairs ... bit like the Hulk

Electrocute1980 · 30/09/2019 21:01

I had a bed shark - he lived under my bed at night waiting to bite my feet off unless I took a running jump from the door to the bed. I accidentally saw the part in Jaws where Quint gets eaten when I was about 8 or 9 which terrified the life out of me and is the reason I still to this day never swim in the sea!! I love sharks though and even have a tattoo of one on my back Smile

TroysMammy · 30/09/2019 21:05

I always believed a bulldog would bite my bum when I was on the toilet. Years later as an adult I visited my childhood friend's first house and she had a white ceramic bulldog on her toilet cistern. She never know about my fear from years earlier.

VioletCharlotte · 30/09/2019 21:08

There used to be a wolf who lived in my wardrobe. I had to make sure the sliding door was tight shut so he couldn't get out.

Bluntness100 · 30/09/2019 21:10

My parents.

Sometimes monsters are real.

HippoRampage · 30/09/2019 21:15

The plughole monster was the only way to get my niece out of the bath for a time 😂

Fatted · 30/09/2019 21:15

I vividly remember lying in bed at night, listening to my pulse and I actually thought it was a tiny army of little elves marching around. Confused

I also remember something about a giant spider climbing in through the window and I had to go to sleep before it arrived.

I used to think that bears lived down the cracks in the pavement and if you stood on one, the bears would eat you. I made the mistake of mentioning this to my 6YO DS the other day and now he keeps asking about the bears! He also obviously has decided there is a toilet monster because he's scared of flushing the toilet. When I make him do it, he scarpers out the room screaming!

witherwings · 30/09/2019 21:15

The bumbiter. It lived in the toilet and would come up and try and bite you when you flushed. I used to avoid flushing or had to prepare myself by pulling trousers etc up, washing hands, open door and then flush and run.
I was about 4 when I saw a sticker of it on a friends toilet and believed there was one in every toilet.

CharDee · 30/09/2019 21:16

Edward Scissorhands lived in my wardrobe.

I've never even seen the film I'd just seen the trailer on a video.

I was terrified that he was going to cut my hair and then cut the tree in our back garden down.
