I had to send mine back for my divorce. Had to order a copy.

Bobthefishermanswife · 30/09/2019 13:53

In a shoe box under your bed titled "stuff I don't need but should keep"

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/09/2019 13:54

Just order a new one

Do you absolutely have to have it? We only needed my husband's decree absolute when we wen't for our appointment.

I have to admit that was over 15 years ago now though!

A copy should be easy enough to get hold of.

BeyondAvoidant · 30/09/2019 14:01

I don't want to get a copy as I know the original is definitely here somewhere

Apparently I need it as I double-barrelled my name since my passport was issued, though the correct name is on my DA?

Pretty sure my solicitor had mine off me when I filed for divorce.
All we needed for our recent marriage was the decree absolutes.

DMCWelshcakes · 30/09/2019 14:17

In a random bag of crap down by the side of your bed.

(That's where mine was anyway!)

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 30/09/2019 14:19

Same places as mine Hmm if you find it pop it back to me. I am also refusing to order a new one but I’m going to have to. Have no bloody clue where mine has gone and I need it for a couple of things.

JaneJeffer · 30/09/2019 14:21

It's in a box with that pile of stuff you said you would sort out next week back in February.

qualityheat · 30/09/2019 14:22

It's in a document wallet / folder thing in your kitchen.

Rachelover60 · 30/09/2019 14:24

I recently ordered a copy of mine as couldn't find the original. It doesn't cost much nor take long to arrive.

AdaColeman · 30/09/2019 14:24

I had to return mine in exchange for my decree absolute.

BeyondAvoidant · 30/09/2019 14:52

I got it back after the DA though, didn't I? Or have I not noticed for all this time? Grin

I've checked most places as I already had to find my lost passport. I'm actually usually pretty organised!

On top of the fridge?
In the letter holder?
In the draw where you keep emergency birthday cards?
In a folder with degree certificates and the like?
In a side pocket of a holdall or bag in the wardrobe?

Just some places I've found random stuff before!

MidnightMystery · 30/09/2019 15:13

Shoved in an envelope in a box in the wardrobe

TheSilveryPussycat · 30/09/2019 15:16

I had to give mine to the solicitor when I got divorced, quite early in the process, and it was not returned.

stillbeingwatched · 30/09/2019 15:19

It's with the other thing you needed that time to prove your identity : home address : full name etc etc
In an old handbag in a brown envelope

SamBeckett · 30/09/2019 15:42

When i needed mine ( after DH death) I couldn't find the bugger anywhere so I got a couple of new ones, sent then off to he various bodies the needed them and put the last spare in a desk draw . When I shut the draw something got stuck so the draw wouldn't close properly , I fished around a bit and guess what was stopping it from closing . I was so cross I burst into tears Angry

Floralnomad · 30/09/2019 15:46

When I needed adult ds birth certificate it was in an enevelope at the bottom of my bra drawer . My marriage certificate is in an envelope in the front of my wedding album which is in a box in dhs wardrobe .

Littlebelina · 30/09/2019 15:49

Ours was with the dc's birth certificate (think we had to take it when we registered dd birth)

Willowkins · 30/09/2019 15:50

I kept mine with my O Level certificates for ages. Any chance it's with other important papers?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/09/2019 15:51

I washed mine. They don't survive a wash cycle in the Washing machine.

petrocellihouse · 30/09/2019 15:54

Check it’s not in the printer. If you’ve had to photocopy/scan it at any point it might still be there on the glass bit!

hotchocdrinker · 30/09/2019 17:20

Echoing what others have said above, I had to give mine to the solicitor when I filed for divorce. You don't get it back. I had to provide a marriage certificate for something after I divorced, so applied for a copy online. It arrived in about a week from what I can remember.

feliciabirthgiver · 30/09/2019 17:45

Definitely didn't get mine back after divorce, just double checked my document folder now. Just had to produce decree absolute for registering new marriage.
