Londoners please recommend a 'cool' restaurant for a 21st dinner

DD would like to go out in London for her birthday. She told her sister that she'd like to go somewhere 'cool and fun'- we live in Yorkshire and rather off the pace when it comes to London restaurant trends. I haven't got a clue where to go!

We went to Sketch for a previous birthday ( food average, photos fabulous) and that went down well. I think she'd like something buzzy, busy and 'in'.

Big birthday, so happy to pay whatever it takes- but she's not really into testing menus and super-fine dining. Any recommendations gratefully received.

Not Petersham Nurseries in Covent Garden, service abominable

Due to horribly late notice ( thanks DD for humming and haahing about dates and plans) we struggled to get into lots of places including Bob Bob and Sexy fish- but we've reserved The Ned to stay and have a table at Cecconi's. Should we risk queuing for Gloria instead of this? they've got my card so I'd need to cancel the table.

We have access to the private rooftop bar etc- but is there cool bar alternative elsewhere? We'll probably stay City/Shoreditch way rather than heading west. Thanks for all your help!

Cecconi’s is lovely but I’d describe it as sophisticated or elegant rather than “cool”.

The City Social bar at Tower 42 round the corner is pretty good, if you like skyscraper views and ludicrously expensive cocktails!

Balthazar is lovely .
Quaglino's has a great vibe too or there's plenty of great choices at the ned if you're staying there and great live music in the central bar .

If you’re in the City and want a rooftop bar have a look at Madison which is near St Paul’s and a short walk from the Ned.

PoloM1nt · 10/10/2019 20:51

Yeah City Social is good, or I'd suggest Coq D'Argent for an excellent roof top vibe

Answerthequestion · 10/10/2019 21:02

Tasting menu at Roka, I like Charlotte street

If you’re staying at The Ned, try Coya in Angel Lane. Despite being in the city it’s absolutely heaving at the weekend. Very Instagram friendly and good food/drinks as well.

jcurve · 10/10/2019 21:28

Bars - Sushi Samba, City Social, the Sky Garden, Coq d’Argent, Madison in that order I’d say.

jcurve · 10/10/2019 21:31

There’s a new Bob Bob in the City if you haven’t investigated - not sure on weekend opening hours.

Another vote for Sketch, plus I'm pretty sure it has 3 Michelin stars!

Literally the only people I know who have been to sexy fish are in their 60s 🤷‍♀️
