Londoners please recommend a 'cool' restaurant for a 21st dinner

DD would like to go out in London for her birthday. She told her sister that she'd like to go somewhere 'cool and fun'- we live in Yorkshire and rather off the pace when it comes to London restaurant trends. I haven't got a clue where to go!

We went to Sketch for a previous birthday ( food average, photos fabulous) and that went down well. I think she'd like something buzzy, busy and 'in'.

Big birthday, so happy to pay whatever it takes- but she's not really into testing menus and super-fine dining. Any recommendations gratefully received.

Tasting menus ( although probably not into testing menus either!)

Pollen Street Social
Chiltern Firehouse
Berger's Tavern

Spring to mind immediately

Thanks, we've been to The Chiltern Firehouse, which was great - Berner's Tavern looks like a good option.

La bodega negra in SoHo... has an overt bistro and then a secret spot you have to try and find....

Oh second Gloria - it’s great food and drinks and relatively new

Felina · 30/09/2019 16:32

Sexy Fish, definitely!

Sky Garden for cocktails. I love pollen st social but not sure it is happening enough (food is amazing though),

Souk Bazaar when they have belly dancing on!

inwood · 30/09/2019 18:47

Bob Bob Richard for totally bonkers but Sexy Fish is probably more teenage and for the gram.

The Parrot or Chiltern Firehouse or The Ned.

Leftielefterson · 30/09/2019 19:15

Pollen street social - food divine. It don’t think that’s right for the occasion

Chiltern firehouse is fine but I think it’s had it’s day of being cool and I think has been replaced by Sexy Fish

Park Chinois is very cool these days, live music too which is a bit of a rarity these days

Yuatcha a good option if wanting to be in Soho for drinks afterwards

Hakkassan also really nice and has a cool vibe

(I speak as if I’m super cool, I’m not but my friends and DP occasionally take me to these fancy pants places)

SushiSamba

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 30/09/2019 21:18

Sexy Fish, Gloria or Circolo Populare

WineOrGinOrBoth · 30/09/2019 21:21

STK I think - well it used to be cool but not sure if it still is.

Yes to Sexy Fish.

spagbog5 · 30/09/2019 21:22

Our three think Sketch is very cool !
Not been yet so can't pass comment on the food but looks incredibly fun .

cjctcb · 30/09/2019 21:25

I'd go with The Ned, Gloria, Duck & Waffle, Bourne & Hollingsworth, Bob Bob Richard or Hide. Park Chinois is really fun, they put on a little show in-between courses and Hutong at The Shard is also great for a cocktail and the view! All totally 'grammable

Dollywilde · 30/09/2019 21:26

Was also coming on for Bob Bob Ricard or Hakasan

cjctcb · 30/09/2019 21:28

Ooo The Petersham in Covent Garden is also lovely too

JemimaTab · 30/09/2019 21:28

How about Ceviche on Frith Street in Soho? Peruvian food (delicious!), has a young buzzy vibe, also does great cocktails. Plus it’s in Soho so loads of options for afterwards.
