I’m taking my stepdaughters stepson out to tea later and two of his friends a brother and sister.

They are called Sid(ney) and Nancy!

My step daughter told me this with a straight face but given that she is a generation down from me aren’t the names rather ‘obvious’?!

A friend has a niece and nephew called Anna and Rex.

Clangus00 · 01/10/2019 12:49

I genuinely know a Waynette who has a brother called Wayne.
They’re both mid 70’s and American.

hazandduck · 01/10/2019 12:58

My niece and nephew are Fred and Florence...my sister isn’t particularly posh so don’t think it’s your friend @BigusBumus
and she definitely knew the reference - she worked in Tesco when she was at Uni! They do suit their names though 😁 To the other poster though...erm her surname did begin with A! So maybe you do know my sis!

I used to teach identical twins called William and Wilfred. They were supposed to be called Bill and Wilf but were known to everyone as Bilf.

MuseumOfYou · 01/10/2019 14:07

for example, if you have a James and a Matthew and then called a third sibling Lexie -May they are totally different kind of names to.their sibling

Always remember Bob Geldoff commenting along those lines, when being asked about his younger daughter's names. Just imagine, 'I'm Fifi Trixiebelle and this is my sister, Janet.'

SoMuchToBits · 01/10/2019 14:23

I know a Pearl who has a twin brother called Dean.

MaMaMaMySharona · 01/10/2019 14:49

I'm truly shocked that people don't know the reference of Sid and Nancy?? Shock Shock Shock

Greggers2017 · 01/10/2019 15:01

A friend from school has a Maya, Daya and Amaya!
I taught a Porsche who had a sister Mercedes.
DD has a friend called Versace who's sister is Armani.
And I also have taught a Reggie and Ronnie.

What did happen to Eleanor and Samuel? Confused

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/10/2019 15:10

I do think it’s a bit of an odd combo, Sid and Nancy. And Ronnie and Reggie.
They are particularly infamous combinations IMO.

gostiwooz · 01/10/2019 15:20

I'm waiting for someone to say they know twins called Eric and Ernie Grin

raspberryk · 01/10/2019 15:32

Sorry but I don't know the connection between Sid and Nancy or Ronnie and Reggie.
I might share the thought if they were Benjamin and Peter ... flopsy mopsy and cotton tail Grin

ChicCroissant · 01/10/2019 15:45

Janet and John - my first thought was for the Togmeister and Mrs Bickerdyke rather than the Ladybird books.

Togmeister was Terry Wogan btw, as that reference is probably obscure as well.

Given what they did, I would raise an eyebrow at anyone with a pairing of Sid and Nancy or Ronnie and Reggie.

Walnutwhipster · 01/10/2019 15:48

@Frangipane I think Sam and Ella sounding similar to salmonella

Frangipane · 01/10/2019 16:15

Thanks @Walnutwhipster
