Can anyone help with a recommendation for a decent and affordable hotel in a nice area of Munich please? There are so many and I don't know the area at all.

Oh that's a fab deal for the Sofitel! I've stayed there before for work and it's lovely, was expensive though so glad you've got a bargain. Have a great time!

Make sure you get to Tollwood as mentioned above. My favourite Christmas market in the whole world :).
