Its vulgar and ugly but sexist? I don't think so.

ThanosSavedMe · 13/09/2019 07:41

Don’t think it’s sexist. It’s shit though

Kyvia · 13/09/2019 07:46

Are you interpreting it as saying that the wearer’s breasts are the ‘entertainment system’? If so I can kinda see your point if I squint my brain a bit.... but I don’t think so. It does depress me that one of the reviews is describing it as ‘retro’ though as SNES is a childhood reference to me! Don’t think I’m the target market.

CassianAndor · 13/09/2019 07:47

It’s cile and sexist. It’s saying that a young woman is an entertainment system.

Horrible.

bookwormsforever · 13/09/2019 07:49

That's what I thought! Saying her boobs are an entertainment system.

Big vile sexist advert.

On dd's bday list. I said no...

And we have to see it by clicking a link, and giving the vendors traffic and maybe info on who has visited and from where.

Screen shot might have been a better idea?

Yes, there is oodles of clothing which only those with appalling taste and dodgy opinions would wear. Why do you feel the need to single thus one out for attention?

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 13/09/2019 07:52

I certainly don't think it's mad to interpret it as sexist - it feels like it's playing with that idea, which is pretty gross.

I don't think you would ever find a skintight boy's t shirt with the same message, so that's probably your answer!

BeanBag7 · 13/09/2019 07:53

Shock how old is your DD?

Kyvia · 13/09/2019 07:53

Yeah, I don’t interpret it that way but can see if you do then you’d find it offensive. The ‘Super Nintendo’ text is much more obvious and to me it’s just a reference to a gaming console. Apparently a ‘retro’ one Hmm

FFSDH · 13/09/2019 07:55

I really don’t think it’s sexist. There are lots of men’s T-shirt’s that have identical retro gaming logos on. This just happens to be called an entertainment system. There are so many sexist things out there to be angry about but I really don’t think this is one of them.

It’s a bloody ugly top though. Is it swimming costume material? If you wore a bra with it you’d have lumps and bumps all over it. If you didn’t then I think your movement (even as a teenage girl who it’s designed to stay up on) would be restricted to ensure it didn’t fall down.

Soola · 13/09/2019 07:57

You see what you want to see.

It’s just a boob tube with the the logo/brand of a gaming system.

bwydda · 13/09/2019 07:57

There are plenty of T-shirt's with the same thing written on them. For men and women. If its the skin tight that's the issue- then Are all bandeaus sexist? They are by nature skin tight (and in my opinion a clothes wear choice designed by the patriarchy to sexualise women for the benefit of the male gaze)

AmIThough · 13/09/2019 07:58

It's not sexist but Forever 21 are ridiculous for listing this under 'blouses'

I don't understand why anyone would want to wear a bandeau anyway.

bookwormsforever · 13/09/2019 08:00

@MoggyP - I haven't uploaded pics before so thoughta link would be OK. Am sure a few MNetters clicking on a link won't change Forever 21's marketing policy...

And I ask about this one as it's on dd's bday list...

You didn't have to click on it or even read the thread, it's not compulsory!!

DD is 15.

lazylinguist · 13/09/2019 08:03

It's tacky as hell and there's no way I'd buy it for a 15 yo girl, but I don't think it's sexist.

BlueCornsihPixie · 13/09/2019 08:04

I assume the entertainment system written across a girls boobs while she poses sexily is meant to imply she is the entertainment system. I would assume that is definitely one of the background thoughts we are supposed to have

Do not get it for your DD. It's vile

MildThing · 13/09/2019 08:04

Big vile sexist advert.

bookwormsforever · 13/09/2019 08:04

Yeah, the material looks like swimsuit material.

Not all bandeaus are bad, though - what about this one (another clicky link)?

It's pretty without being overtly sexy or giving the 'wrong message'...

www.forever21.com/uk/shop/Catalog/Product/f21/top_blouses/2000342112

And I don't understand why anyone would want to wear a bandeau anyway

@AmIThough - loads of teens wear them. If you can't wear a bandeau when you're a gorgeous teen, then when can you???

Hwory · 13/09/2019 08:10

It’s just a gaming top in a style of top your don’t like OP.

WaynettaSlobOnTheSchoolRun · 13/09/2019 08:11

Undecided. This t-shirt has the same logo on the breast area and isn't 'sexy' or sexist.

AmIThough · 13/09/2019 08:13

@bookwormsforever I know, I have 3 teenage sisters and they make me cringe Grin

I've never been body confident though so it's probably partly jealousy on my part!

MorrisZapp · 13/09/2019 08:17

That's fucking naff central. Ghastly.

MorrisZapp · 13/09/2019 08:19

Tshirts stay up by being hung from your shoulders. You can wear them as baggy or as tight as you like.

Boob tubes stay up by clinging to your boobs. If you then write Entertainment System on them, I'd say the boobs/entertainment message is fairly strongly made.
