I'm just trying to figure out which box to tick on some paperwork.

That's light brown with blonde highlights.

True, but it's not a thing on the form where the OP has to tick a box.

If it's not red, grey, black or bald, it's brown or blonde.

I'm amusing myself with the thought of men trying to solve this dilemma:
"Now, does a few strands of grey in a comb over count as grey instead of bald?
And couldn't I have 'fair but very fine' as a description?"

That’s dark blonde. I have the same hair colour naturally and it annoys me when people say it’s brown!! I think it’s because so many people associate blonde with the colour you can only get out of a bottle or when you are young. (My hair was a very light blonde as a child and darkened over the years. But it’s still blonde. Not brown. And I’m not at all sensitive about it!!)

Why are men with brown hair never described as ‘brunette’ ?

Dark blonde, my daughter has the same colour, she was very blonde as a child and it has gone that colour at 15.
