Has anyone else changed their plans because it is too hot for them !

Honestly, I had plans to go for a long walk today and its 2pm and I have done very little. Not helped by DD's body clock being completely opposite to mine so an early walk just doesn't happen. Add in that I am an asthmatic, peri-menopausal woman and the heat is just too much for me.

All or nothing isn't it, we were away last week and it was down to 8 degrees at night and rained all week.

I am dodging the heat, inside, outside, have got a million jobs to do and am not succeeding at all.

Hopefully I will get out for a walk this evening. Tell me it isn't just me!

We went out yesterday- it was horrendous. Today is hotter so I have given up on doing anything.
Our house is fairly cool and DC are complaining they are still too hot but it’s better than outside.

Abibranning · 26/08/2019 14:10

Supposed to be baking a birthday cake, but it's too hot the icing kept slipping off. I've given up and bought a shop one.

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/08/2019 14:11

I went out to cut the grass. The back garden was ok. Went round the front and it's roasting. I'll either do it much later or in the morning

Me too. Doing all my main jobs early so I can rest and keep well out of the heat in the afternoon.

Bunnybigears · 26/08/2019 14:13

Went to a national trust place without the dog despite it being international dog day because he would have been too hot. Now we are back and although we live 5 minutes walk from the beach we have had a waterfight in the garden and we are now watching a film with the curtains shut.

A weekend away was changed to weekend at home with daytrips, has changed to weekend at home with all the fans on and as much ice cream in the freezer as would fit. And wine. No jobs, no healthy walks. Just lying down trying to keep cool, eating ice cream and drinking cold wine.

It'll soon be cold enough for 'bracing' walks to make up for it... Grin

Having a hiding indoors day here ....All my blinds are half shut to keep the sun out, all windows closed & all ceiling fans are on ( the air indoors is cool so fans are blowing cool air ) it's bliss Smile No going outdoors for us today.

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/08/2019 14:19

Now I want 🍷

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/08/2019 14:22

No, 30 degrees is lovely. Make the most of the nice weather , dress appropriately, drink plenty of water and stop moaning!

Justmuddlingalong · 26/08/2019 14:24

Did what needed doing earlier this morning, so now I'm just pottering in the house. I can't be out in the sun today as I spent most of yesterday afternoon in a beer garden drinking gin because I'm sunburned. ☺️

LunaLovesgood · 26/08/2019 14:26

DD and I got to the park this morning and had a paddle in the splash pool. Literally left the house at half 8 and we were home for half 11 (with a stop to drop Ice cream to DH at work). She's been sparked out since 12 my pregnant ass is sat in a vest and pants in front of a fan watching Netflix.

Not moving til bedtime now. We've also had about 3 Ice creams so far today too Grin

LifeOfBox · 26/08/2019 14:26

My people Grin, we are fine in our garden which is north facing, quite sunny but one of the seating areas is in shade until the evening 👍🏻.

Bunny I can walk to a NT place from my house over the fields- takes about an hour. You wouldn’t believe the number of people with dogs yesterday lunchtime - mine was in the kitchen on the stone floor. I felt dizzy after the long hill to the abbey. It was about 28 degrees.

I had planned a cleaning blitz day - to wash the carpets and deep clean the kitchen. But it’s too hot for all of that moving around. Am laid out in skimpies in front of the fan, curtains closed, with Netflix and a flaked out dog for company. I keep reptiles too and it’s so hot I’ve had to switch all their set-ups off as can’t keep them cool enough!

milliefiori · 26/08/2019 14:29

I did yesterday. Was supposed to go for a drink with friends then back to their house for a BBQ but I felt so washed out I couldn't move all day, so had to cancel, and I usually love a good BBQ. It was as if all the energy had been siphoned out of my body.

This is fab Grin, enjoy Luna.

I have got the fabric to make 13 Roman blinds staring at me, most with a 2m drop. I feel like I should be doing something but I really can’t be bothered!

Yes
Not walking around any NT places etc in this heat
Quick hour of kayaking locally (walking) at 10, couple of drinks in pub
Now it's nap time until heat wears off a bit

CupoTeap · 26/08/2019 14:30

Yes total changed plans the kids don't want to go outside as it's too hot and I'm happy to live with that.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 26/08/2019 14:31

Like an idiot I just played a tennis tournament

May just lie down for the rest of the day in a shaded room

Dog was walked at 8, poor black dogs get so hot otherwise!

I feel I am done with hot weather now. Am not normally a summer moaner, but I need to get the house cleaned and organised as going back to work tomorrow, but am so hot, tired and lazy

Justmuddlingalong · 26/08/2019 14:34

I washed the 15 tog winter quilt this morning, as part of my looking forward to autumn/winter prep and put it on the line to dry. My neighbours will be 😕

thenightsky · 26/08/2019 14:34

I was meant to go to a car show yesterday in an open field. Nope, never happened.

Today I was meant to go wander around the Steampunk festival in nearest city. Nope, that's not happening either.

DH has just asked if I fancy driving him out in my open top sports car to somewhere he can have a cold pint. I have agreed Grin

Cornettoninja · 26/08/2019 14:36

I’d go as far as saying it’s ruined our BH weekend tbh. Dd(3) has such pale skin and sun cream seems to make her hotter and break out in rashes so the bulk of the day has been spent inside instead of going to the places I thought we could go. No where that special, just a bit of a park crawl but the heat would just make it miserable.

Our sodding gazebo cover got wreaked in the last lot of wind/rain so there’s zero shade in our back garden till about 3 when I’ll drag the paddling pool out.

Also found out that blue slushies give dd an explosive backside at about 3am this morning so that was fun...

Pre-dd I would have been happily alternating the garden and Netflix... roll on the teenage years!

Cornettoninja · 26/08/2019 14:39

...and Dyson fans are shit. Save your money.

SimonJT · 26/08/2019 14:41

We’re doing what we normally do on a nice day, London fields park for play and football, maybe a paddle in the pool.

Oblomov19 · 26/08/2019 14:42

Yes. I took Ds2 to my sil's for a week. So Dh & I were childfree. He suggested the beach - west wittering = my fave, but it was just too hot.

Instead we went to Costco bought loads of nice good, and stocked up on £200 worth of cleaning products etc!

MitziK · 26/08/2019 14:48

In a way, yes - we've agreed to spend a bunch of cash on a portable air cooler/aircon for next year, just as soon as the weather is shit again and the prices come down.

And I've changed my original rule of always opening doors, curtains, blinds and windows first thing and leaving them open until it's dark - it's still over 30 degrees inside, even though they haven't been opened since the last time it was raining.

I'm 46 - I have to start getting hot flushes soon and definitely won't be able to cope with those and summer weather, as I can't function in this heat.
