What’s your favourite piece of classical music?

I love classical music but when my MH is poor (as it has been for a year) I can’t listen to it (no idea why!) but it’s now improving and I want to get back into it!

But all my fave pieces feel a bit over listened too so what are your favourite pieces!

TIA

Interesting what you say about your MH. I am prone to depression and can't find any classical music that doesn't make me feel really down! My husband really appreciates classical though.

Soave sia il vento from Cosi Fan Tutte. Like music from heaven.

I love Opera compilations too. Not usually keen on Puccini but bizarrely love In Questia Reggia from Turandot.

..and LOVE a good overture, favourite being the Thieving Magpie by Rossini.

For a good blub, can't beat I Pagliacci by Leoncavallo.

I love film soundtracks I could listen to Yann Tierson all day.

Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 (C minor) is a m a z i n g. Also Elgar's (lesser known) Music Makers. Anything/everything by Chopin.

Borodin's Polotsvian Dances. So atmospheric.

I also love Karl Jenkins' The armed man. But just a warning, I went to a BSO concert performance of it and sobbed uncontrollably during the Benedictus. Although actually it was an uplifting kind of cry and I felt almost relieved afterwards. Odd, but actually quite good for my mental health in the end!

Hope you find something uplifting.

Lark Ascending by Vaughn Williams. It's sublime. Always brings me out in goosebumps

Brahms German Requiem
Faure Requiem
Orff Carmina Burana (all of it, not just O Fortuna, which everybody knows)
Faure Pavane
Rodrigo Guitar Concerto
Schumann Piano Concerto
Debussy La Fille au Cheveux de Lin (The girl with the Flaxen Hair)
Beethoven Pastoral Symphony
Greig Peer Gynt Suite.

The Lark Ascending

Also a symphony of sorrowful songs (I find it very moving for some reason)

Love Prokofiev's Classical symphony. Makes me so happy just hearing it.
Also love most Debussy piano, Chopin piano, Beethoven piano sonatas

Deadheadstickeronacadillac · 22/08/2019 22:16

Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis is my current go to piece

Hoolajerry · 22/08/2019 22:51

Elgar Cello Concerto in E minor
My favourite piece of music of all time

IsItMeYourLookingFor · 22/08/2019 23:07

Für Elise- Ludwig van Beethoven

Don't know why I like it , but its slightly ethereal yet uplifting.

Forgot Fantasia on the Theme of Thomas Tallis. Even better when played on the organ. L love Tallis, Byrd and polyphony.
