I'm pondering a move and just curious to know which of the Home Counties you favour? If you have an opinion of course.

What are the Home Counties?

AwesomePossums · 17/08/2019 20:39

This explains it better than I can.

Cumbria

Bluntness100 · 17/08/2019 20:40

Surrey and Sussex.

Thr Home Counties are the counties that border London.

AwesomePossums · 17/08/2019 20:40

When did they move Cumbria? Grin

Cumbria is lovely though. I'll give you that.

When I did. Best move ever.

Frith2013 · 17/08/2019 20:43

I always wondered which counties were included. I’d hate to live anywhere near London (or indeed, urban). So I’d have to go for a nice bit of Surrey.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 17/08/2019 20:43

I don't know where the Home Counties are. I also get confused between the New Forest and the Black Forest 🤔

Oblomov19 · 17/08/2019 20:45

Middlesex and Berkshire are nice. If you have a lot of money!!

AwesomePossums · 17/08/2019 20:45

Well, they are practically next door. Grin

I can't talk though. My UK geography is very poor.

I realise that bits of Kent are rural but I’m used to mountains and valleys and loathed the scenery (or lack thereof) when I went to Kent. It was like being in an American film where people drive long distances on weirdly straight roads with no hedges.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 17/08/2019 20:47

Don't get me started on the Peak District 😲

Rockbird · 17/08/2019 20:50

Surrey dweller here. Best county, obviously.

tobee · 17/08/2019 20:56

Born and brought up in Surrey! It always seems to have an unfairly bad reputation. Feel like I have to apologise for coming from there.

AwesomePossums · 17/08/2019 20:59

Is that because it's regarded as very posh, tobee?

Flat scenery in Kent?! North Downs?

Obviously I am biased but Garden of England, naturally!

Geraniumpink · 17/08/2019 21:04

Hertfordshire, I lived and worked in Hertford, which I really enjoyed. I’ve lived in Berkshire as well.

GiantKitten · 17/08/2019 21:04

I grew up in Middlesex when it still existed (me & Russell Grant). I don’t miss it Grin

Of the rest I like the Sussexes & Kent best.

missyB1 · 17/08/2019 21:07

I would love to live in Kent - if I could afford it!

GrannyHaddock · 17/08/2019 21:12

Kent for me, varied scenery; lovely hilly parts nearer London around the North Downs and the Greensand Hills, with beautiful villages, pubs and churches. Many national trust type places. And also remote, lonely areas on Sheppey and Dungeness. Herts and Essex would be my least favourite, sorry.

SoMuchToBits · 17/08/2019 21:13

Kent. But my family originally came from there and I have links there, so I'm obviously biased!

SpaceDinosaur · 17/08/2019 21:37

Hertfordshire.

Excellent schools. Easy commute to the City. Lots of green. Also, good property 😁

Skyejuly · 17/08/2019 21:39

Parts of Kent are lovely
I love Essex too.

AwesomePossums · 17/08/2019 21:57

I feel as though I rarely hear about Hertfordshire. I could tell you so little about it. I'll have to go read up on it because I'm sure it's lovely, or alternately watch more Escape To The Country.
