I want a glorious scented candle! Help!

I want a gorgeously scented candle basically! I’ve never lived in a house that I can use a candle in until now and I want to celebrate with a candle!

A friend uses Esteban candles which are stunning but seems to be super hard to get more then a basic range of scents.

I don’t like Yankee candles

I like fresh clean scents, not to sweet.

Thank you Grin

Next do some really nice scented candles and they're not pricey

ThePhoenixRises · 15/08/2019 10:57

Bounty candle - Fireside

HarryPotterwhatarotter · 15/08/2019 10:57

I like the Scandinavisk range - John Lewis stock them though you can buy them elsewhere too.

My favourite is Skog, calm of the boreal forest. Lovely!

Shearers candles are incredible! Or the white company ones have some beautiful fresh scents

ThePhoenixRises · 15/08/2019 10:58

Not Bounty candles, they no longer exist Sad

PalmersGreen · 15/08/2019 11:04

I think I am alone in not likening Jo Malone (neither candles or nth oil, haven't tried anything else). The scent just doesn’t last and is nothing special anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

letsdolunch321 · 15/08/2019 11:05

I love candles but also use wax melts in a burner - got various smelling melts from Etsy.

Recently got a candle from Avon - Jasmine & White Violet - very reasonably priced also got a couple from Crabtree & Evelyn (not tried these yet)

Lime & Basil from Aldi was a good buy too

SilverySurfer · 15/08/2019 11:09

How about making your own - it's so easy.

pontiouspilates · 15/08/2019 11:12

I love the Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir. Don't bother with Aldi dupes, they don't come close.

Skittlesandbeer · 15/08/2019 11:13

NOW I know who buys all these fragrance candles in supermarkets and gift shops!

I’m not super sensitive to smells normally, but most scented candles have me stuffed up and coughing within minutes.

I love candles, and essential oils, so I do buy soy wax with identifiable oils used. Or plain beeswax. But all the ones on this thread would not lead to a relaxing evening for me. Maybe I’ve misread (I did skim a bit), but aren’t they mostly fragranced with chemical stuff we’d rather not fill our room air with?

Maybe it’s just me, though, they do seem to be popular.

Homesense usually have a large display of assorted candles, which is worth a sniff.

I love Woodwick candles. They have a lovely scent and crackle when they burn.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/08/2019 11:21

What is your budget? Diptyque are fabulous but pricey. Molton Brown are not so pricey and much better than Jo Malone imo (fragrances good but not very long lasting), ESPA are very good as are Clarins. The best budget candle by far imo is Paddywax, Black Coconut and Amber is my favourite. About GBP25 for 12.5oz the fragrance lasts and the candle burns for many hours.

DerelictWreck · 15/08/2019 11:23

Stoneglow from John Lewis £20 each so cheaper than Jo Malone etc and nicer (I think).

Seasalt and oakmoss www.johnlewis.com/stoneglow-modern-classic-sea-salt-oakmoss-scented-candle-220g/p3853417
Plum Blossom and Musk www.johnlewis.com/stoneglow-modern-classic-plum-blossom-musk-scented-candle-220g/p3853423

Both lovely and not sweet/floral and not overpowering. Actually smell when they're burning too, where as cheap supermarket candles only smell great when you've got your nose in them, but not from more than a foot away..

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 15/08/2019 11:23

Believe it or not the large ones(In glass jars) of various scents in home bargains are really nice and only about 4 pounds

Honeyroar · 15/08/2019 11:29

I don’t like the Jo Malone ones either, and they’re ridiculously over priced!

If you can find one, Bath and Bodyworks candles from America are the best candles ever. They have hundreds of flavours that change with the season. Mahogany teakwood is a good starter.

DontCallMeShitley · 15/08/2019 11:45

Floris, last ages and you don't need to use it for long as they are good quality ones.

PalmersGreen · 15/08/2019 11:45

Jo Malone was bought out by Estée Lauder many years ago and they test on animals.

Try Octo or Nara, they don’t.

HelgaGPataki · 15/08/2019 11:51

Neom!
Also, Temple Spa do lovely candles, but I'm not sure if they're available all year round though.

VirginiaWolfHall · 15/08/2019 12:02

Aldi Jo Malone and Milton Brown fakes are great for everyday burning, but for special evenings I much prefer my Jo Malones, they really do smell much more powerful and full the room much more effectively.

@BertrandRussell does the Cire Trudon last? I seem to be forever tempted by splashing out on a Spriritus Sancti, I can imagine it’s a lovely churchy a/w scent, just my thing.

TK Maxx/ Homesense

Although, I was in last night and they have stocked up with autumnal smells, so spiced pumpkin, Apple type ones which i don't like. They are not fresh scents.

Avoid soy candles, most are shit, don't burn well and lose their scent.

Partylite are really nice, but are not available in shops. Cheap ones from home bargains are also good. They do decent t lights (for the price) and come in several scents. They also do a good wood wick candle.

If you get jar candles, you need to leave them to burn for a couple of hours until you get a full liquid layer, otherwise they are a waste of money.

Enjoy. I love candles!!

Readytogogogo · 15/08/2019 12:14

I love the Sand and Fog candles that you can sometimes get in tk maxx - really rich pleasant scents. Even my husband likes the smell and he normally hates scented candles.

MrsJakeLovell · 15/08/2019 14:09

Support a small business- not a giant chain!

I can whole heartedly recommend a small company called Kernow Spa - beautiful scents, beautifully presented and packaged.

Botanical Candle Co Candles are incredible! My favourite is Quietude its made from essential oils and is so calming and soothing

www.thebotanicalcandleco.co.uk/

Also they are a small female run business which is always worth supporting in my book.

TrimYourWick · 15/08/2019 16:54

Go for the smaller independent candle makers
